So my cousin keeps talking about how he can hack, than when i asked him to show me, he needed programs he didn't have, he needed information about the computer that he didn't have, he needed them to open, download, or log in to a phishing page. He claimed he could hack anything, and so did his other to friends so i told them to hack my laptop. Bottom line is, they couldn't "hack" my laptop. All three of the needed special circumstances such as downloading, phishing, computer needed to be on, or i needed to be logged onto an IM ect. My question, is there REAL hacking. Like what you see on CSI, and 24? Or is that just speculation of what hackers may be able to do in the future?
Research Anonymous and watch some programs on history/militery channel ect.. It's very real. Your cuz and his pals are just noobs sporting a big ego about there past time hobbys. ;P
Yeah, well every hacker i've ever known or talked to is the same. I even asked several people over the internet to hack into my old myspace account and they couldn't even do that.
all those situations you see on these shows are not reality when it comes to computar practise. So no its nothing like the show.
there is truely hacking and yes you do need tools however what they are trying to do is what I tend to call the 'juvenile' hacking which is roughly the same as remote support
When I was growing up my brother's friend/my friend's brother was a true hacker. He once called in Radioshack, tricked the employee into giving him the computer's IP address and changed prices. He used to change grades in highschool for money or other favors, and would have his friends signal down the hallways from the teacher's room to the computer lab because he could only do it while the session was open. And he taught some friends how to change the school's desktops to gay porn after he dropped out (and went to college). They got caught and expelled, but their senior prank was successful. I can do minor things like your cousin. I've never seen any show or movie that came close to what hacking was like. Hackers probably got it closest. There's no such thing as a wizard who can get into anything. Hacking is all about finding opportunities and flaws. Some a person can exploit with their own manpower, (changing 'm_12345678.jpg' to 'l_12345678.jpg' to view a large picture on myspace even though you aren't their friend), others, a tool is more appropriate (brute force attacking a myspace password).
Uhmm, think about it for a moment........... OK times up. Hacking into secure networks can be a BIG felony. Any real hackers worth a shit that can do the type of hacking you are talking about sure as fuck aren't going to tell you all about it simply because you ask. The "hackers" you have been dealing with are most likely 12 and can crack a game or two.
HDV is right. Hacking is a high profile criminal act. If you are making big bucks off of hitting banks, are you gonna tell anyone how you do it? Are you gonna confirm to anyone that it can be done? What are you gonna do? You're gonna STFU and let the know-nothing asses get the attention because your goal is to make a profit, not make the news. And TRUE hackers are no different
There are indeed hackers that can hack anything. They are usually people who could have been excellent programmers making applications etc and most of them do but they make them for the purpose of entering computers illegally. Others exploit loopholes in protocols and systems, for example using techniques such as SQL injection attacks and man-in-the-middle attacks. These things are surprisingly easy to do providing that you are competent with computer networks and protocol routing and also have at least a small knowledge of programming. There are many attacks hackers use to illegally enter systems, but that isnt the problem of a hacker. The true hackers are those who are experts at remaining undetected and that is a lot harder. Also they are so aware of computer security and are experts in it so they could tell if the computers they are attacking are genuine or being used as a honeypot etc. Often the people who break into systems are paid to keep people out of other systems and paid very highly, they have read the right books been to the right schools and colleges and I never understand why they dont just stick at their normal job rather than going after the thrill of hacking
