Is there some sort of post-earthquake competition?

Yeah, you could say it like this; hey poor people without any means to do better, watch how a wealthy nation thrives while you just hope to survive

There is no comparison really.. Japan has been building its infrastructure long before round eye dropped death from above..

Well yes, I do realize that. I also remember that they got treated like a they were members of a third world country that we didn't really like. Bush and "yer doin a helluva job brownie" really seemed to care a lot didn't they?

New Orleans served to illustrate the growing disparity between the rich and the poor in America

I see it more as a lesson that man made structures can not compete with mother nature

its pretty dumb to build below sea level

Rich country argument falls flat... The United States will expend hundreds of billions of dollars and mobilize its military to "rescue" a foreign people from brutal tyranny in an oil rich country and sit on its hands when its own people, whose taxes helped fund the military escapades, are faced with a natural disaster. The thing is there's nothing strategic to be gained by actually taking care of ones own citizens so the American people get speeches instead of action. That so few call their government on its bullshit suggests that by and large Americans deserve the criminal "representation" they get in government.

That too, although building below sea level is not uncommon. From what I understand the levies failed because they needed to be repaired and updated before Katrina hit.

The damage in Tokyo could have been much, much worse if it weren't for an infrastructure built to withstand powerful earthquakes.

What the fuck you all talking about??

The Dutch built practically their entire country beneath sea level

America was just too fucking negligent to fix a problem with the levees. That and FEMA deliberately shot at people who were trying to get away to survive. Along with making women flash their goods at them in order go get any assistance. Makes me sick.

The people who think that bush is to blame for the miss handling of New Orleans post hurricane Katrina really don’t know anything about American government and should stfu.

The Bush Administration mishandled nothing- they did exactly what they intended to do (or not do).. what was mishandled was the PR campaign intended to convince most folks that they were doing all they could- or even gave a flying fuck. Blame the Washington press corps for not effectively spinning inaction.

I don't think there's really any kind of "competition" when it comes to natural disaster...

Haiti and New Orleans have nothing to learn from Japan...how do you learn from something like this besides mental preparation for the worst?
