GOP - We don't like how you vote, so we're going to make it so you can't vote.

This carries even more weighty implications in New Hampshire where the article is mainly concerned(though bills are in numerous states) as New Hampshire is the one New England state where Dems and the GOP actually are often pretty even.

So how's that Live Free or Die motto going for you right now New Hampshire

GOP 2012 - Trying to change the world is bad and keeping blacks and bleeding heart college students from voting 4 eva.

I was a college student in New Hampshire in the early 70s and I can tell you it's a pretty damn conservative state, surrounded by liberal or moderate states. Just next door in Vermont they offer medical marijuana, and the people of New Hampshire sure as hell don't want that happening there!

This doesn't shock me, seeing that after all these years New Hampshire is still fighting liberalism wherever it can.

If it were to pass then a significant portion of the population might well wake the fuck up. We'll start with college students and who is next- elderly? Maybe they can set it up so only corporations can vote.

The sooner people in general can be radicalized the sooner meaningful reform can happen- so in a sense i kinda hope it DOES pass. I expect this to be pure rhetoric though... furnishing an artificial issue for the NH legislature to "rescue" its citizens from- when there likely was no intention of moving ahead with it in the first place.

Democrat governor, but Republicans have enough seats in the House and Senate to override a veto, so I'd say it's probably going to pass.

I've been saying it for years: use your voting rights or LOSE THEM. Few of my classmates listened. Now we all are suffering the consequences.

Sounds like they are losing their voting rights precisely because they used them.

I got surprised when I read this post. Students are the backbone of the economy and people are planning keep out of them. I think students should also participate in voting.:sunny:

    There is that. :ack2:

But I think that if we'd been using them before, these idiots wouldn't have been in a position to take them away in the first place.

I actually read this same article a few days ago, the day after I was in a Civilization and Literature class where my department head mentioned that "Anytime a fascist regime takes over, the first thing they do is attack the intellectuals..." He was talking about the Guerra Sucia in Latinoamerica, where the government started making college students (and other threats) disappear, but the timing was just too good.

To top everything else off, while my campus is just getting word of this story... we got word this week that the Republican state legislature is shutting down buckets of financial aid for college students. Hmm, coincidence???

Great news! Voter suppression against black and brown-skinned people, and the young and the poor, along with the kneecapping of the financial base of the Democratic party may just wake up the Democratic party and coax it into returning to a left-of-center point of view - and if not the people who have been supporting it may just form a 4th party. The important thing is that the Right is denied the graceful implementation of these programs - as they were denied in Wisconsin. Exciting times!

    From MoveOn:

So after work on Tuesday, March 15, we're mobilizing Defend the Dream events in all 50 states at our schools, libraries, fire stations, hospitals, and parks to stand up against Republican attacks.

    http://pol.moveon.org/event/events/index.html?rc=homepage&action_id=239

there is a zip code search engine included on the page to show where the nearest protest site will be located.

That ship has sailed... they're busy losing other people's minds- though they may be finding some slim pickings there.

shady politics. do what you can to try to ensure your party gets the edge. i imagine the democrats are guilty of the same at times. same shit happens during redistricting

"kids vote liberal 'cause they don't know anything"

"old people vote conservative 'cause theyre cold and callous and dont give a damn about anyone"

    it's the same shit

so either they don't get to vote, or they run out and buy an id card for 30$ so that they can vote - the government wins both ways

This bill is based entirely on crappy stereotypes and generalizations.

I have doubts that this bill is gonna pass, even with a republican majority. I could be wrong though. But it seems to me that when a group in power decides to ram a freedom destroying bill(s) through, they always suffer a huge blowback come election day.

I could be wrong, but we'll see.
