yeah, Fear of Music is my all-time favourite album. Remain in Light is tops as well. They proved that pop can be intelligent, and doesn't have to be formulaic.
here's some pics i took of them nearly 30 years ago [the date on the back of the photos is jan 79] they were supporting the 2nd lp, playing free at uc berkeley immediately after the show, the news started spreading that george moscone, the mayor of san francisco, and harvey milk, a supervisor, had been murdered [eerie right after 'psycho killer']
quick follow-up that date i mention is not the date of the show, but the date the photos were printed [google the assassination for the show date] AND i remember that there were color photos too but i lost em, or my asshole brother stole em [sorry]
i have to admit, i am not interested at all in any other band from this genre or era. But Talking Heads fu*&ing kick ass.
Great band; I'll never forget the first time I heard 'em... I was highly electrified, a friend slapped headphones on me and told me to check out this new psychedelic gay disco band. It was too weird for my ears... it was completely alien to me. A few years later someone loaned me the live set, and that blew my mind. I listened to it a lot. My son is in his 20s, and the music he most associates with childhood memories is Talking Heads (I meant it to be The Beatles, like my childhood, but oh well). David Byrne does a blog, mostly about art, which is one of my alltime favorite blogs. The man is amazingly brilliant.
I love The Talking Heads. Even though Once In A Lifetime, is probably their biggest hit.. "And you may find yourself living in a shotgun shack And you may find yourself in another part of the world And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile And you may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful Wife And you may ask yourself-well...how did I get here? " Those are still some of my favorite lyrics.
the Talking Heads are brilliant, they manage to have a great sound while being somewhat comical at the same time. I just love everything about them.
Dude, I was just listening to the Motet cover Nothing but Flowers and realized just how complex their music was. beyond just the polyrythms there are like 5 key modulations in it and they are so off the wall it is almost jarring. And with all that complexity you still find yourself singing the song after it's over. Peace Out, Rev J
They are my favorite band ever, no question. Personally I consider them to be one of the greatest bands of all time. Speaking In Tongues album made me a fan, but the three albums More Songs..., Fear of Music and Remain In Light sealed the deal for me. Always had a soft spot for the True Stories album/movie too lol. My favorite songs would probably be Houses In Motion, Cities, The Great Curve and obv Once In A Lifetime.
just watched this performance of Crosseyed & Painless it's fuckin' KILLER https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6g8lFmsCXhg"]Talking Heads - Crosseyed & Painless
