Okay, I don't know about everyone else, but I was under the impression that the freedoms provided for the American people, a lot of them being constitutional rights, would not ever be shaken "by those who hate that we are free", as Mr. Bush has said previously. We are told as Americans that the constitution provides us with freedoms, that in our life time, and in the existence of this country, will never be taken away from us. Because of this constant reiteration, a lot of us have come to believe that terrorists truely can't take away what this country stands for and that is freedom. But the problem with this idea is that after 9/11 this has been proven to be untrue. Those "who hate us because we our free" have accomplished part of their goal, and this should be an outrage to the citizens of this country. The Patriot Act limits freedoms specifically our freedom to privacy, and why has our freedom to have privacy been limited? Simply because of terrorists. So this poses another question as the war on terror continues to be fought, how many more forms of freedom will the terrorists force our government to take away from us? There is a lot of talk that in 2005 all cellphones will have a GPS device in them so that every American with a cell phone can be monitored, before 9/11 more often than not it was illegal to do anything of the sort, including tapping cell phone calls, which because of the Patriot Act is now permitted. So what's the deal? And why is our War On Terror helping the terrorists accomplish this goal of taking away the basis of this country, our right to be free. Not too mention all the conversation of racial profiling that occurs on a daily basis which if a bill supporting this is passed even more rights would be taken away, and these are some of the most important rights that this country provides. The right to equality. What's the deal, and why are we sitting around and letting this occur?
Because these terrorists you speak of are in black suits and ties, and sitting on capitol hill, these are the terrorists who orchestrated 9/11, and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, which have been planned since the 90's, followed because of it. These are the terrorists who want to take our freedom away, with the patriot act and the patriot act II, it isn't a bunch of turban wearing terrorists in a cave... Peace and Love, Dan
The war on terrorism is nothing but the war on freedom and civil liberties. Like Dan said, the real terrorists are the ones on Capital Hill. They're the ones we need to fear, not Bush and Clinton's scapegoat bin Laden.
Yeah, it was almost as predictable as the stuff I read from you. You should get a job with FOX News. You'd make a great mouthpiece for the Bushies. You seem pretty intelligent and well-spoken. Hell, maybe you could even be the next Ann Coulter.
According to the 9-11 commision, 9-11 happened because there was communication problems between the CIA and FBI, not that we didn't have enough information.
Well, all corporate media is controlled by the global-elite, though FOX seems best at pushing the neocon agenda with their blatant pro-Bush propaganda. But don't get me wrong, I don't like CNN or MSNBC any better.
But this all can be done without making George Orwell turn in his grave, (unlike wiretapping without a warrant and deporting Cat Stevens.) Allowing for greater communication between intelligence organizations and spying on the American people are two very different things.
Well, that's not really true. The 9/11 Commission was a whitewash. Prior to 9/11, the Bush Administration had plenty of warnings but failed to act. So, if we are to take the official story of 9/11 as fact, and not as the massive coverup I think it is, wouldn't it be safe to say that because of their fuckups, we are the ones being punished? Bush spews all this nonsense about the terrorists "hating us for our freedom," yet he's taking away the very same freedoms they supposedly hate us for. I would just like to know when Bush will admit that the terrorists have already won.
As did the Clinton adminstration, one could argue. But what we do agree on is that 9-11 did not occur due to lack of information, but the way it was handled by whoever could have done something.
All you have to do is simply look at WHO gained from 9/11. It certainly seems that our GOVERNMENT gained a lot of new powers. And it is called 'create your own enemy'. That way you can scare your populace into submission. It's sad that it's so simply, yet people cannot see the simple-ness of the political situation in Amerika.
Look, ask your self what is more important America or Freedom? The Patriot Act ONLY protects America (the empire), not Americans (the people) or so called American ideal like freedom. So now your faced with the choice of standing for America or freedom as currently the nation of USA is an obstacle to freedom. The truth is the out come of USA vs Al Qaeda is irrelvent, both stands for oppression. Instead of standing behind the US because they might be a better master, why not try and fight for the idea of being free?
