Ive just very excitedly bought some sari silk fibre and banana fibre and a spindle and the whole kit.
Just wondered if anyone else has used this for spinning and what were the results? Any pics??

I'm also very interested in sari silk. it's so beautiful. It would be nice to be able to make it yourself because of the prices in the shops... So i hope someone with experience will answer. How did it go for you chemigals?

Also just stopping in to say that is VERY cool, I just started hearing about sari silk yarn and banana silk earlier tonight and I think it would be amazing to make my own! Please let us know how it goes for you because it's really interesting and I'd love to know anything I can :)

i haven't tried sari silk or banana fiber yet....
but i know if you are a beginner it is best to start with a longer staple length!
i have been spinning on a spindle for about a year, just graduated to spinning wheel hehehe :)
i have just tried spinning with 3rd grade mulberry silk, i found it a wee bit harder to work with than longer staples....
what kind of spindle did you get??
i have used a few different kinds, maybe i could have some tips for you ;)

    Hi Chemigals,

I've spun silk before, but not banana or sari silk. If it's anything like silkworm silk, you're going to have to "over spin" it because the fibers are so slippery.
That being said, I don't spindle spin (never have actually! *blush* ) I have a Louet S10 spinning wheel.

They're super fun, and wonderful for making your own yarns.
Best of luck! Please post some pics!

    Peace,
    -Mama
