Despite my name, I love rap, although I hate the shit they play on the radio. I am familiar with some British rappers such as Slick Rick, Lowkey, The Streets, Roots Manuva, Akala, and, of course, Lady Sovereign. However, I cannot stand Lady Sovereign, yet she is quite popular in the States, especially amongst the younger crowd.

How is Lady Sovereign perceived in the United Kingdom? Does the general public love her? Is she popular only amongst teenagers? Is she hated by the general public? I'm sure you get the idea. I'm curious.

As just another female wannabe black gangster rapper.
At least she is around here.

I'm not usually a huge fan of rap but roots manuva's pretty sweet.

Here, in the states, she is compared to the likes of Missy Elliot and Fergie. To me, these are not good comparisons at all. It would be better to be compared to MC Lyte, Jean Grae, the Lady of Rage, or Queen Latifah.

I agree with your comment about Roots Manuva. If there is any British rapper who deserves fame in the States, it should be him. Not only is his sound unique, he also writes meaningful lyrics.

She just a pop star. I like some of her songs, they are catchy. I'd also tap it.

Okay, I take back what I said about her. Well, some of it . . .

As a lesbian, I am glad she admitted to being gay and not giving a shit about the public's reaction. I discovered this today. I feel slow.

I'll give her credit there. That does not change my views regarding her music.

In the "Grime scene" Lady Sovereign is seen as a bit of a disgrace; she's often boo'd off stage and she can't freestyle/rap battle.

I think she's mainly appreciated by cocky middle class girls who want to experience the glamorous side of grimey music without the substance.

she is not popular here anymore, she had moderate success a while ago - doubt she will have a revival, music has moved on a bit since.

i don't care for her stuff. plus, she was a wanker on tv, though that means nothing when talking about my taste in music.

in saying all this, and being mindful of your proclivity, i have friends who really liked her and probably still do - they are both lesbians. suffice to say i think she has a gay following nowadays, more than a mainstream following. i get the impression she is herself, see.

    I meant rascist.

And reading what you've posted about being a leader leads me to the conclusion that you might also be a facist.

I've actually seen Lady Sovereign live at a festival lol!! She's fucking shit and no one likes her.... well i guess some do but i've never met them.

I've seen Akala as well, wasn't actually my choice cos my friend forced me to see him and i agreed cos he was being a prick and wouldn't leave i was so smashed on MDMA i wouldn't leave him and this caused me to not get into the Underworld tent... FUCK!! Luckily Deadmau5 came on the main stage moments after this major underworld let down so at least i got some banging house set! WOOP WOOP

BTW the best british grime/rap w/e u wish to call it is Dizzee rascal 'Boy in the corner' album easily. 'Showtime' is pretty good as well, anything after that just write off as selling out!
