I've had a couple of dreads in since the start of december, and I put a few more in at the start of last month, and most are really loose around my scalp, and there's a lot of loose hair sticking out of them as well, and I don't know whether i'm meant to backcomb (i'm doing the backcombingmethod) them, or just leave them to do their thing. I was also wondering what I should use to wash them, but not shapmoo or anything, something a bit more n:sunny:atural and what I know will deff' not leave any residue or anything. *I don't want to crochet the loose hairs either, sorry for being so picky* >.<
What about when I wash them and they unravel slightly? I usually palm roll them a bit to get them back into shape
Baking Soda is good for washing and doesn't leave residue. Just leave them to their own devices for while, wash as regularly as you want.
The ends usually get really unraveled so I usually just backcomb them again alittle bit too, but mostly I clip them all on top of my head and individually palm roll them
Every time you rebackcomb you're sort of starting over from scratch. As the bodies knot up the tips will follow suit. I personally wouldn't rebackcomb.
Would it be better if I just put a few beads here in there to stop my temtpation to re-backcomb them? When I do adorn them I tend to take them out a lot and re-arrange them, but I don't think that's a good idea. One the first dread that I made, I wrapped it in a wool wrap and left it on for about a month and that one is the one that's doing the best, but I don't want a multi-coloured head of woolness
The loosening (sounds like a horror movie) is inevitable after backcombing, some will seem like they've completely come apart. Give it 6 months and they'll be well on their way! Don't mess with them too much (if at all)!
Leave them and they'll sort themselves out ^^ Loose hairs are good, and looseness at the scalp is good. Eventually everything will tighten up (Cept the scalp, other wise it gets really uncomfy- but leave it aloone and it'll sort itself out). You can wash with just water, or bicarb, or any shampoo that isn't too conditioning. Since you've only got a few dreads I don't think it'll matter too much whatever you use ^^
The left side of my head is dreaeed at the moment ^^ i'm doing the whole of my head but leaving out my fringe, but i'm doing it a few dreads at a time till I can control these and stuff =3 thanks ^^ would lemon juice work?
