Well it appears that Anonymous has struck again. This time the target is the billionaire Koch brothers whose latest escapade involves the Wisconsin battle to destroy unions and collective bargaining. The same bill would also allow the Koch brothers to purchase public power plants for any price they choose, without public hearings. These are the same people behind the Citizens United decision that allowed corporations to spend unlimited amounts of money on political campaigns. Anonymous brought down their website on Sunday and posted the following announcement about their action: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/...ns-for-prosperity_n_829056.html?ir=Technology
I must commend those within the Anonymous community for expanding their actions beyond the Church of Scientology to supporting Internet Freedom (wikileaks), supporting popular uprisings of the PEOPLE (Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, etc.), and now supporting the democratic rights of the people in Wisconsin and other states. I have high hopes for Anonymous as they are the power of the Internet made real. They show how anarchy can be tamed and focused to influence others and even help overthrow dictators. The existence of Anonymous - beyond the control of any individual, group or government, is so important for all our freedoms right now. Anonymous has been excellent at incorporating the values of free speech, democracy and activism into a viable, relatively transparent method of effecting change in the world. And in conjunction with other groups like wikileaks they form a backstop against the growth of big brother and the Oligarchs, reminding all of how the accumulation of power works against the common good. So keep up the great work and focus of Anonymous! Long may you reign over those who would control and repress and exploit the people!
They are very diversified, but basically they're trying to corner the market on commodities and energy and they seem to have their own hedge funds to do precisely that. Minerals, chemicals, refining, forestry, ranching, fertilizers, pollution "control" (yeah right!). Seems to me they are probably one of the biggest polluters and land fuckers on the planet. And they want MORE of everything. What really disturbs me is this whole fight in Wisconsin, which they thought would be a shoe-in thanks to the Republicans running the state now, is actually a front for a grab by Koch Industries to privatize and own the state's public energy resources... That should be the primary issue, not the union busting, although that too is important to stop.
from the net: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koch_Industries http://videocafe.crooksandliars.com/heather/walker-paying-back-koch-brothers-wisconsin note....these sites are accessible to a wide variety of individuals, so i'm not saying any of this information is absolutely true...generally wiki is 'mostly correct'; sometimes even it is not close to factual. i did some more reading on this...like soros and so many others on 'the right and the left' (like any of the power mad bastards are different), these people have their fingers in every politician, running them like a puppet. somehow, the politicians should be given $100,000 from the state or national treasuries and NO FURTHER MONEY SHOULD EVER BE ALLOWED TO THEM FOR ANYTHING FOR THAT YEAR. by god, we hired them to do a job! how dare anyone else buy them because they are the highest bidder? i do not understand why their finances could not be a public monthly topic-as open and transparent as a window. NO ONE ELSE SHOULD OWN THEM LIKE THIS. damn....i detest politicians. maybe we should have prostitutes in washington and state capitols...they at least as honest as politiicans....
Showed that there are people who don't like these puppet masters bullshit, and who will fight it, by whatever means necessary. Anon stands up for free speech, but also against manipulated/manipulative speech.
I meant did it do anything other than make a statement, like were they not able to access funds, or did they do any destructive non reparable damage to anything?
Nope. They could, but didn't. That's a rather different thing. Anyone who says using a LOIC to DDoS is hacking is a fucking idiot, wether they work for fox news or huffpo. They're different people who do it, and anon is NOT a group, or orginization, or REALLY even collective. midgardensun linked to a fanatical website full o' bull the other day, that had one good article with a good description of DDoS attacks. It's the virtual equivalent to a sit-in. It's not perminantly damaging, it's just getting in the way, to show that you're pissed and pissed enough to throw yourself in front of the proverbial train over this shit. Of course, the FBI chase down the 14 year olds doing this and prosecute them as "hackers" in front of a jury of their "peers' who don't know how to use a keyboard, much less a mouse, and who eat that shit up. But it's basically a virtual sit-in. Saying I'm here, I'm pissed, and I'm going to stand in your way.
I used to be a channer, I've participated in ddos attacks before. I ask if they did anything else because usually after the website goes down everyone gets bored and stops caring about it
you can take down the entire internet cutting fiber optic lines.. but oh silly me protesturds use the internet to communicate.... blah....
The problem with 'announcements" from Anonymous like these is that they are often written by some fifteen year old kid claiming to be a representative of Anonymous. There is no power structure or authority in Anonymous. It is a hive-mind, and what the majority wants to do, it will simply do. Trying to speak for them is idiocy.
why? for all their lavish spending, their tax paid bailout, with preferred shares and part nationalisation has actually profited the american government to the sum of billions. they lent like 15 billion for a three year period, with an offered 8% yield. it's funny how people hate the banks and how the bailout was formulated. turns out TARP and an ex CEO chairman of treasury did actually stabalise the world economy. it was about giving to those companies less risky, not just the wealthy (though the latter is unfair). anyways mortgage lenders were just as venomous as banks, greedy northern rock lenders, for instance, borrowing 120% of the value of the amount needed. those who moaned over the banks and government in 2008 are nearly mincing their words. this is just a kindly consideration anyways, not trying to provoke - it's actually fascinating. the real buggers are the automobile industry - they stole peoples money. anywhooo, anonymous - they are 4chan's clever bunch aren't they? i don't know a lot about them.
yeah they sound cool. you should always support those who produce change, rather than the more fair weather. out of interest though, what are their political stance?
Anonymous is an umbrella term. Anonymous is not a they, it is a he. Every member simply refers to themselves as Anonymous. They are one. That said, they have no unified political stance other than a general fondness for freedom of speech and other such things that allows Anonymous to stay in existence.
