This is my original work, with some help from wikipedia about stinkbugs. Forgive my lack of orginization

What are stinkbugs?: Time travelers (that will be) sent from the military/government of the future in order to quietly and almost harmlessly provide the respective future with more food for a better world.

Speculation : the government agency DTT department of time travel
Or the TET time engineering team

    Feedback?

    Why:
extract dna (stinkbugs are factually subject to extracting nutrients from fruit) from food crop to provide food for the overwhelming future population. The insect extracts the crop DNA and brings it back to the future.

    How:
we obviously won't kill them because they fuckin smell.
it is a very practical and untraceable way to affect the present without the past being aware of their presence, and the stinkbug population can be easily destroyed without any problems to the environment - since stinkbugs serve no known purpose other than the single 1/500 species which eat japanese beetles*.
If that happens, the government obviously wont supply aid to researchers trying to figure out why/how the pest population was destroyed in a small interval of time, if we are even reluctant to fund current issues

    How b:
The stinkbugs return to their time by simply bothering humans until we flush them down the toilet. They are then either put in some sort of invisible mothership or are just deposited in the sewers somewhere, where their creators will find them untouched.

Speculation: this era and country are a perfect target.
the current economic climate makes our time an ideal target for the operation because food being grown in the united states isn't a problem, but money being budgeted is a problem which means that ...
    A. Less money which would be spent investigating a phenomenon
    B. Less people suffer from hunger if it's in the US rather than a less fortunate country
    C. Other countries that would have an issue keeping up with a food parasite are also expected to eat stink bugs which ruins the plan anyway

Problem: once they extract food crop, it is in their body and cannot be transferred- nick k
Response: those biological engineers who created the creature will be capable of modifying their bodies in such a way that the nutrients are not absorbed, they are rather stored in an amniotic dna storage device

I'll bet those damn cockroaches are just here to destroy all evidence of the TET once we're all obliterated by nuclear apocalypse.

    This whole room is bugged.
