Will fasting for a day throw off anything significantly? A friend of mine says "zahh, it will throw off your metabolism." I have good metabolism. I just wanted to see if I could go a day without eating... Gracias!
no, human metabolism doesn't change that quickly. if anything, some interesting research into fasting and intermittent fasting show a small increase in metabolism in the initial phase of the fasting period.
i've had plenty of days that i didn't have a chance to eat when i needed to, and i didn't suddenly gain weight afterward.
fasting is supposed to give your system a chance to cleanse itself of toxins, so I think if it has any effect on your metabolism it would be purely beneficial.
No. While it's true to some extent that metabolism slows in response to starvation (I believe I've read no more than 18% of your normal basal metabolism), one day of fasting really isn't enough to have much of an effect. People who are actually starving don't gain (or maintain) body weight--they lose it! And potentially a lot of it. Nonsense. The body is constantly filtering out "toxins" taken in from the environment, like waste products, xenobiotics, etc. Fasting has no effect on this.
I gave up the last time. I went without food. I got home and could not resist dinner at 6 pm. I fasted today. I am debating eating dinner. I just feel so restless. I have a headache, I feel as if I need to stretch, I am irritable, bored and craving food. lol. I walk a lot at school during the day. I should have fasted on a lazy week end or during spring break. What do you guys think? Should I fight through the miserableness and not eat at all today? Thanks all. P.S. I am not fasting for any religious reasons. I am non-religious.
I'm fasting next week for a procedure...makes it much easier with a completely empty digestive system. I suggest fasting on a lazy day because when you are walking around and doing things, your body needs the food for energy and you are depriving it of that energy
Jews, Muslims, Christians, Bhuddist, ect have fasted for religious reasons for over 4,000 years. People have been fasting in more well fed agnostic times for reasons of personal achievement through self control. All fasting will do is make you hungry. Plus the fact in days where people drink more than water and wine, there's plenty of juices and such with calories and nutrients so you can fast without having to deprive your body of energy.
Didn’t think so because even the catholic church allows you to eat on the first day of lent (ash wednesday) although you're not allowed to eat meat Hotwater
That's basically what I was looking for. Subconsciously, I am probably looking for someone to tell me to eat. But, so far my fasting has been backed up. It seems that I will continue to fast.
I fast occasionally and for me personally, it makes me feel better and more energized afterwards. I usually drink cleansing teas while I am fasting though. When I feel hungry I meditate though it, but I understand that this is not for everyone. So basically, do whatever feels best to you whether that means fasting or no fasting or whatever.
