This is it. I told you. I have to warn you this video is 15 minutes long. it is me and harold talkin about my car https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=567WM5uTBk8"]YouTube - 1975 Oldsmobile Omega Before Restoration
Did you just recently get this? Old cars are fucking awesome since most to all have no electrical work. New cars are nothing but fucking problems since we going the electric way (almost impossible to do it yourself) @ 4:00 that is repairable Only talking about the engine here - it should be taken out piece by piece, its really dirty man... im sure you know that though.. What are your plans? Work towards a show car or just a personal project? 7:07 lol....
I dig it! obdI > obdII... Plus, buying and old car and fixing is the way to go, you'll learn your car inside and out and can usually tell exactly what's wrong with it... Versus some new fangled computer controlled car where when anything breaks it usually involves big money. I drive a 1992 nx2000, its like a go cart with t-tops...
so did adam sandler.. :mickey: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-34Fdtg1dI"]YouTube - Adam Sandler - Piece Of Shit Car
I did just recently get it. I got it from a guy who said his grandfather was the original owner. He wants me to keep in touch with my progress because he's attached to the car. he dosent want me to make the car stupid and flashy, rather keep everything original if possible. Luckily that's what I want to do with it anyways, so that's cool. as for cleaning the engine piece by piece, I could do that.. but I really need tools and a engine lift. First thing is first, make it a reliable driver before I go making it fancy. I know that the radiator and alternator are the only things I need, and then it will be roadworthy. If it turns out nice enough, I just might show it. but really it's just so I can look like a cool ass dude driving it down the street with my mom in the passenger seat goin to the grocery store. huh? THat's a sweet ride, even if it will fit in the trunk of mine.
I owned a 73 impala 2 door hard top once..was awesome shape but needed interior work and a new cam (it was a 350 4 barrel) now that was a sweet ride..I should have kept it i see now that they are pretty common with the low riders crews I really liked the concave back window heres a pic of one..mine was gold color with white interior
Is it some sort of American tradition/Right of passage to get an old car and do it up in your garage. Possibly being helped by your dad, with your mom in th kitchen making pot roast or whatnot?
In a sense, yes. But I know my dad, he has zero patience when it comes helping others do the things he knows in his sleep...he's a lovely man in every other respect, though.
Ok recent development!! I got the alternator (generator) off. I had to take the brace that mounted it to the engine off. I should have thought of it sooner. The bolt I was trying to take off looks like some kind of special assembly pivot thing. I will probably get a new one of those too, along with bolts. it looks like this. http://www.autopartsnetwork.com/cat...cket/Spectre/42273.html?filter=brand:Spectre_ the bolt that's going through it is the one that allows the alternator to pivot. that's the one I was trying to take out. So far my shopping list is alternator alternator bracket radiator 2 hose clamps antifreeze
Screw that rite of passage malarkey I bought a new car when i turned 18 and drove it as far as it would take me on a full tank of gas before heading back home North Truro, MA (1993) Hotwater
its pretty sad that my current vehicle with an inline 6 cylinder has 85 more horsepower and gets twice the mpg than a 350 v8 built in the 70's
Naturally, buying an old car and fixing it instills a sense of ownership(and pride) that just buying a new(er) car doesn't. Besides, "they don't make 'em like the used to" Understandably you are probably working with a limited budget. However, depending on condition, i would also replace the belt that drives the alternator. Considering you'll have the alt. off it'll be easy now instead of a pita later. just a thought.
