people have the habit of ridiculing or making fun of those who actually follows the hippie lifestyle of the sixties. Today more than ever we need (perhaps more than before) all the hippie philosophy. The thirst for materialism grows and grows and lifestyle considered common, in my view, has nothing in common. I'm tired of seeing families being separated by a tv, I mean, the family relationship no longer exists. Interest in others' lives has become our main activit. And we simply have to accept it. so.. who to be a hippie nowadays?
For starters... Be respectful of all life. Appreciate what you have, rather than wishing for what you don't. Don't let guests leave your home hungry or thirsty.
As this site evidences day after day, a drug addicted, sexual deviate adult who bludges off Mum and Dad.
Love generously; be peaceful; love your country, but hate your government; be creative; but above all: be YOURSELF! love, peace and freedom dudes, Em xxx
all the people I know who dress like hippies are in it for the fashion and want to mooch off your drugs, and are generally nasty people. the people with a real hippie ethos tend to dress a lot less obviously, presumaby because they dont want to dress like it's 40 years ago so to show off how 'super-alternative and liberated they are, man'.
I never had a problem with being ridiculed for it until one day some ass hole in the gas station said to my boyfriend "fuck your hippie bullshit". Now hes the type to shrug stuff off, be like whatever dudes an ass and move on. Well me on the other hand.... lol hehe .. Anyway we were in the car waiting for our friends to come out of the gas station and the douche bag kid walks out the store so I made sure he looked at me and I flick him off and said "fuck your rap music"... lol... Sorry just my personality, I don't have anything against rap music either, I just heard the kid pull up playin it loud. I donno man, dude was a dick. Realistically my boyfriend has a better approach about it but sometimes you need to stick up for yourself. But I am not saying that violence is the answer. Oh and I had never before exp someone poking fun at me or him because of such so it really was like "what? Are you kidding? no way man... Really?" Why would someone say such things... whatever
the people of today would embrace a new hippy movement,it covers all people and is universal,it omits none.it would be an antidote,to the disease of ego grasping, greed, and being blindly led by governments who constantly lie,and yet we sit and do nothing.the people have always had the power but we are quite happy to be led like sheep,at the bidding of people who have no right.we need new shepherds to gather the flock and teach truth and freedom,to let go and just be in peace,to floooww easily through life and stop the constant rushing of ego towards what can only be a dreadful conclusion for everyone on mother earth.
Don't peek at other families anymore and you solved your own problem: By the way, don't know what families you have been observing but I think 'the family relationship no longer exists' is a massive exaggeration.
New shepherds to gather the flock makes you sound like a christian. Anyway, the flock obviously doesn't want to be herd by hippies or hippie ideals.
come out from babylon, love the earth and all its inhabitants. looking like a hippie doesn't make you a hippie. take a look at the reasons behind hippie movements and beliefs.. i think much of the rest will fall into place.
an icon is needed like john lennon,to spread the love man.i am not a christian although i respect the wisdom that comes from the good book.did not moses set the people free, did the buddha spread truth and freedom?did christ amaze and pacify thinking in his day?does thich nhat hanh not spread love and peace?are the people of the middle east not fighting with rage for some kind of freedom?(although to use rage is wrong)i have a dream(martin luther king)?we need to train our minds and realize the power it exudes.peace and love:sunny:
Hippies were a failed social revolution that got halted by heroin and by becoming a comedy spectacle. It got very ridiculous when all its revolution amounted to was "smoke some weed and take LSD" somehow they failed to convince anyone there was anything worth having a revolution for. The hippy thing ended in 1970 and in 1975 you had John Lydon declaring that he spits at hippies and thinks of them as being wasted and lazy heroin addicted bums and blamed them for wasting the opportunity to bring about a real revolution. By 1977 The Sex Pistols had transformed music and fashion and by 1980 attitudes had changed. I think Lydons attitude was correct. If you want a cool revolution, put down the weed and the lsd and pick up the coke and speed
I get ridiculed at least once a week, maybe it's cause I live in a small closeminded town, where nonconformists should be exiled. I just shrug it off and go on my way. It's not just materialism, Well, a lot of it is, but people only care about how you look and who your with and what you have. Everything's skin deep man. They judge everything, no one can look past someone's looks. Oh, and we don't have to accept it. But, It just seems like to me at least that you're the only one against it and you're loosing the battle and do give in. I dunno. Shit world we live in man.
The sex pistols took pride in sucking at music and fashion, and did it in such a way that they got money for it. They're so cool, that hate their fans, their critics, everyone. Don't you wanna be just like them, part of a group of fake "anarchists" that leeches off the society they rail against, but that could never exist without it? Also, you suck cock at drugs. Seriously. As I've heard from hippies, junkies came back from vietnam, yes. Those who didn't like hippies would call anyone a "hippie", it was just a derogatory term for people who liked drugs. Speedfreaks killed the hippie movement from within, mr. tweaker.
