Can you tell me about it, and give me some textual sources to search out?

I am a University student with access to the libraries of over a half dozen institutions as well as countless journals and databases. I am sure if it is credible I will find it (BTW- My major of my first degree was Religious Studies. So this intrests me at an academic level as well).

I am being cruel to you? Please, show me where!

You seem to be the one questioning my cognitive abilities and impling you hope I die. Thanks.

A Google search for 'the book of leroy' will reveal a thread on the 'arrogant atheist' forums about it, however there's nothing backing it up.

I found out about it on a you-tube video, a quote from it being "god seeks out his fellow heathens"

I'd suggest finding a book on the council of Nicaea.
I'd love access to the Vatican's library, who knows whats in there.

All in all, I couldn't find anything substantial.
Like I said, for arguments sake, you win that round.... do you read my posts or just skim them?

Regardless of what happened at Nicaea, it doesn't affect the points I made.

Did you read my post? I mean...at all?
Telling gay people that if they have sex they will go to hell is cruel
Even more disgusting is the insult to injury, when you pardon yourself from such a rule.

Please ready my large post about imagining life without sex =(
    I spent ages typing that.

I asked mostly for academic intrest.

I did read it. I even responded to it.

If you reread my posts, I never said homosexuality or being gay were sins.

first, You drew a distinction between 'homosexual' and 'gay'
Implying that one could be homosexual in orientation, but it was different to be gay, which was a 'lifestyle' that presumably meant having gay sex.

then you said 'all were called to celibacy' outside of marriage, yet have you not noticed that gay marriage is still a right being fought for?

You piled it underneath this big pile of words,
but really your saying it's wrong. at least that's the impression I got.

Hey, If you don't think it's a sin that's good...because it's looking more and more like it is a genetic thing.
So it would be like saying down syndrome is sin or left handedness is sin (they used to actually think that...)

    =)

An older book on the council of Nicaea, even just a book from early this century, would be an interesting find.

I'd just like to say that for a forum which so fervently honors Julian Assange,
a forum named after the rebellious movement of the 60's
, where people died for freedom of speech,
this forum doesn't do them justice.

You realize that every time you close a thread or delete a post, you are no better than the governments you protest against? no better than the governments that lock up Assange? or the one that committed the massacre Tienanmen square?

The truth usually hurts people's feelings.
The truth is controversial and tumultuous and hideous.

This thread is entitled 'do you believe' and it is in the christian forum.

It has contained nothing but the Issues that surround christian belief.
There is no better thread than this one.

All you want to do is establish totalitarianism.

Christian belief has implications on sexuality and morality and that is all that has been discussed.

    You have it.
If it's so easy to live without it then why don't you.
If you didn't have it, you would see my perspective.

if you only tried giving it up for good, you would soon see how empty life is without sex.

I'm sorry but this is laughable.

Believe me I've done all that. It's hell. it's hell without being in love with someone.

    btw

    what a joke.
The people who run this site, you are a complete and utter joke.

'nothing to do with the original post'

You make me sick with your stupidity and ignorance and pettiness.

All i'm left to assume is that you are sheltered, sensitive and childish people who have no comprehension of logic, reality and sense.

When life finds you, it's going to hit you hard.

If you keep insulting your users like this you will end up with no forum, and no discussion.

    It's already meaningless,
every-time there is a real discussion, someone has to lock the thread or give out suspensions.
    What's the point.
What's the point in having a forum if you just want to control the conversation.

Darrelkitchen. You proved me right when you suspended me and annexxed the thread like this.

It's insulting that you call this 'hip' forums. the hippies would find this kind of thing atrocious.

I think the idea is to promote the free flow of information, it is not a personality cult.

To me the term "hip" is more about being culturally and aesthetically aware than being "hippy," although I cannot speak for the conceptual associations made by the owners in regard to the name hip forums.

To be honest I did not detect a point where the thread was "effectively hijacked" as belief is a wide ranging topic. Regardless, perhaps you could appreciate the fact that you are still posting.

I would expand that statement to say that any belief has such effects. I also feel that it is at the level of belief where we best concentrate our efforts toward meaningful and positive change.

Well, there are a few things at issue here, even before gay marriage.

    1) The question arises, for religious purposes, of whether or not civil marriages (performed without a cleric or witness from the Church) are valid? That is to say, has a religious marriage taken place, or simply a civil contract? This is of even more importance for the Catholic and Orthodox Churches because matrimony is viewed as a Sacrament.

    2) Is civil marriage really a universal human right? I have to admit, it seems to me that in both Canada and the USA, it is enshrined at least implicitly in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and within US Case Law.

I also said that all people were called to be chaste, not celibate. Celibacy is the state of not being married. Chastity is the treating sex with moderation, that is to say, controlling your sexual desires.

The concept of vocation seems foregin to you, so I will try to explain from my perspective. In Catholic theology, peeople can be called to particular careers (such as educators, or doctors), or states in life (celibacy, marriage, the clerical or religious life). I am called to matrimony, or at least that is what I discerned to be my vocation. In my worldview, it was really God who had this idea for me, to be married. I did fall in love with my wife previous to our marrying, but I could have just as easily have loved her, but not felt the call to be married ever. We could have lived perpetually as friends.

I could have also dated her, never felt in love with her, and never feel romantic love for anyone else. I know there are definetly people out there who have not ever met someone they loved, and are sill truly happy.

If you didn't have it, you would see my perspective.
Are you saying you have never had sexual intercourse of any type? Like I said before though, I did manage to go my childhood and teenage year, and two years of my 20's without sex without feeling incredibly deprived. BTW- I am 23 as well. So we have that in common.

Ukr, you are a smart, educated young man. I know you are interested in things from an academic perspective...but as an old-time people watcher/reader...please honey, don't waste your time...
you know?...you can lead a horse to water, you can't make him drink
    Straw man argument, etc.
I sometimes find the beauty of things is in not having to understand that something (or someone, perhaps)...sometimes just knowing it exists, acknowledgement of that fact and moving on to better (and definitely brighter) things is good, too. However, I definitely understand the need to clarify something...especially if you know you can verify it, know this is not the case, etc.
    God bless.

I did actually use to repent, pray, confess, worship and all that stuff you know.
I was quite earnest about it too.

But then I realised what a horrible book the bible was, and the atrocious nature of the God portrayed with in it.

And it obvously it became apparent to me that this book was written and manipulated by men, not God. Logically there's no reason to believe it.

Without a good reason, I simply lack the capability to believe something...
It's not a matter of choice.

    This isn't so great.
Don't mask your failure to understand something as a success.

I noticed this was referenced February 11 2010 in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLGGKraKmXc 50 seconds in.

"And there will come a time when God seeks out His fellow heathens. Glory awaits them in the highest of Kingdoms." ~Leroy 10:8 (rejected at the Council of Nicea)

Clearly the meme's been around more than three years... but I'm not sure how long.

I'm not convinced this was an actual book or that the phrase even existed prior to 1999, or even 2009.

If this was real, wouldn't someone have popularized the source and it's evidence? Sounds like as scam.

Something that SHOULD exist, since it's nobler to do good deeds without heavenly rewards, and nobler to avoid bad deeds without hellish punishments. Since god, like atheists, perceives nobody having created him.

It's something that promotes thinking, but I question it's legitimacy.

I think it's bogus. The Council of Nicea wasn't concerned with including or excluding Books from the Canon. It was mainly devoted to rejecting the teachings of Arius and developing the creed that bears the council's name.
