Has anyone else seen this story. Mrs Clinton has let the cat out of the bag on why we can't legalize drugs, there's too much money involved.

Here is the link to the storyhttp://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/02/clinton-legalize-drugs-too-much-money/

She could say more than that and major news networks in the US would just ignore it anyway.

"You can legalize small amounts for possession" - Hilary Clinton.

I notice this bit wasn't highlighted.

Not surprising. Everyone knows the real reason that drugs are illegal; "there is just too much (unregulated) money in it."

Meanwhile the crooks and thieves who run the US live off of dirty money or simply print off more money when they feel their pockets getting a little shallow.

    Gonna quote this

Also she's right in a way. Look at California, all those growers and dispensary owners that when it came time to vote on legalizing weed for general sale and taxation, all they did was put up hundreds of thousands of dollars to say HELL NO so they could keep their money.

Good point. Fuck those greedy assholes.

Still though, she's saying that it can't happen because one could potentially make too much money. Does that not seem twisted considering how politicians, actors, celebrities, etc. make their millions?

-Crazy how ridiculous and unthought out Clinton's reply was! Thank you for posting that --
We just released a new music video/PSA hybrid called "Legalize" showing just how much money legalization could bring and what the U.S. can do with all that money - https://www.youtube.com/thomassimonmsf

Let's keep the debate brewing so it's voted on again in 2012! - peace and light y'all

Eh, you really can't compare people selling drugs to actors. I don't need to agree with it to see many people hold the point of view that something seems wrong with allowing someone to legally support and collect money out of a person's out of control addiction to a substance.

Take note of the amount of people who have a huge moral issue with drunkenness.

    Exactly.

Plus...It is legal in certain states, as you say, and pretty much anybody can get it for "medical reasons" there...
Most people would be happy if it was legal in small amounts for personal use...and Mrs Clinton wasn't disagreeing with that.

She is right in a way.
You can't, as a means of fighting the black market, because there IS too much money in it.
    That's all she was saying.
If anybody can prove there would be a massive reduction in the black market around the world if the USA legalised drugs (not all drugs, obviously)....please let me know.

No, they really wouldn't. Growing weed takes time and effort, why do you think most people don't do it despite how easy it is to hide a few plants. Hell brewing beer takes a day or 2, that's legal, it's easy, you can buy the kits online to do it, but most people aren't doing that either.

Hillary let it slip folks. For those of you who didn't assume that was the reason before reading her comment, you now know the truth.

For those who continue to ignore it, you can now go back to sticking your head in the sand.

Who stands to lose money? It would seem everyone involved. Why did the growers and dealers in California vote against Prop 19? Were they afraid if cannabis were legal that they would lose money? If I were running a illegal business and had the chance to become legal I would like to think I would jump on it, but they were against it. It would seem they are afraid of the black market and their high profit margins going away.

Who else stands to lose? One that comes to mind right away is the private prison industry, they're making lots of money off the war on drugs. Not only are they getting paid to warehouse people but they're making money selling labor.

The government stands to lose money or at least parts of the government. Look at all the people that make their living by keeping the war going, what happens to them if there is no more war. You would think the powers that be would want to cut spending and increase revenue, that would be the responsible thing to do.

I know people say that the money made would not make up for the money spent on increased health costs, how many people volunteer for rehab because of "marijuana" addiction. Not too many, most of it is court ordered to avoid jail, and so there's another group that stands to lose money.

Would the black market go away, not overnight but it would. Plus if cannabis was sold thru regulated businesses you would be better able to keep it out of the hands of kids which wouldn't be a bad thing, it's seems to cause problems for some kids as far as onset of some mental illness.

I'll stop there and I apologize if I seem to be speaking mostly to cannabis, but that is what I know, so that is what I talk about. I really think the only winner is us if it were made legal and decriminalized is not legalized and medical isn't available to the majority of us.

We knew this all along, it's just nice to finally hear someone admit it. Same idea as most drugs were made illegal in the first place - money, politics, business, racism... all reasons that have nothing to do with the "health" and "safety" of the general public and all the other cop outs they try to pass it off with.

She said it but it doesn't look like it's being picked up by many news agencies. In doing a search I see alot of blogs have picked up on it but only 2 newspapers, the New York Times and the Baltimore Sun. Maybe it will be one of those things that start to snowball.

I doubt you will see it in very many newspapers and I doubt it will snowball.

I'm sure it will get swept under the rug with all the other lies.
