The Favourite Game by Leonard Cohen. Absolute genius. Definitely in the same league as Catcher.

Although it's been mentioned a few times, The Perks of Being a Wallflowers is amazing. It was set in the late 80s/ early 90s and it a modern feel to Catcher in the Rye, although also quite different. It's an interesting read if you have the chance. Also, A Separate Peace is also a good book similar to Catcher in the Rye, but it's more along the same time period.

i LOVED catcher in the rye! i actually suggested that we read it in school to one of my lit teachers, but she said it had too many cusswords in it and the parents would get mad. well thats what i get for livin in a town thats in the guinness book of world records for having the most churches! anyways, i really rented it cus i was curious about why it made that guy who shot Lennon crazy. some people are just born crazy i guess...but i really got into it.

i guess ill have to check out that Perks of Being a Wallflower!

haha god i love catcher in the rye soOo much. i remember b4 we read it in school my lit teacher went through this huge tirade about how it says goddamn over like 200 and something times i think it was lol he made it actually funny cus of that, but he said he thought we were mature enough to handle certain words by now...he went on about lennons assasin too, how the guy would have this like OCD about the book, and every time he passed a bookstore he physically had to go in and buy yet another copy of the book, he had like shelves full of the catcher in the rye in his house suposidly hahaha i can see y too, its my FAVORTIE, but it really makes me sad, how it points out how horrible the world is, and ppl in general. i want to marry holden, poor sweet holden, who only wishes he could save his sister and other lil kids from growing up and realising these evils...
