So I'm finding that my hair gets greasy about 4 days after I wash it, then I wait another few days (eurh), then I wash it.

Since most dreadheads will advise "don't wash your dreads less then a week!" (right?) I was wondering if there was an average time/grease relationship.

Edit: And mention what shampoo you use, or bicarb, or water, or any other washing routine ^^

'Bout a week, I just wash with shower gel / non-soft&shiny&smoothe&knot-free shampoo / whatever.

idk, my hair isn't very greasy soo
last time I forgot to wash it and at 7 days it wasn't grose yet, but I could tell if I waited any longer it wouldn't be nice

edit: I use baking soda + lavender & rosemary tea

Dunno, I wash it whenever. My fringe gets greasy every two days but I can go a few weeks without actually feeling the need to wash my dreads

My loose hairs or fringe gets greasy after a couple of days. The rest about a week or sometimes two.

I wash with baking soda and rinse with vinegar.

I wash every 3 days but that's only because I have a lot of unlocked hair that makes my eyes itchy when it gets greasy, I'll start washing it less frequently when all my hair becomes dreads and I can just tie them back when I sleep

Every Day In Summertime, Every Second Or Third Day In Winter.

The Reason I Don't Wash Every Day In Winter Is Because Of The High Humidity

Making It A Lot Harder To Dry Them.

I'm At 17 Months And Have Only Ever Washed Them With Baking Soda, Using About

A Table Spoon In A 1.25 Litre Coke Bottle.

The Results Are Perfect, No Itch, No Dandruff, Scalp Is Neither Dry Nor Oily.

    Win Win All Round...:2thumbsup:.

    Cheers Glen.

my loose hairs about 3-4 days, Do dreads get greasy? I just wash with some random dread soap every week or so. If its greasy and i can't be bothered washing it, water works pretty good to degrease it for the day

Yea I meant scalp/loose hair. After all the fluffiness is gone from the wash (about 2 or 3 days) then it starts to get a bit.. not greasy, just.. different. Then it gets to about 4 days and I start to get all irritated and stuff cus it feels weird >< And it's only been 4 days since I washed it! Mebe I should wash mah dreadlols more often. Or at least my scalp. Wet flannel around the 'ead should do it..

I was thinking of a way to.. tie up my dreads.. so that when I put my head under the water, my scalp would get wet and not my dreads.. then I forgot that dreads are like sponges + any attempt to get my scalp under the water would result in the dreads crossing the path of the shower at some point, deeming all efforts of this mission pointless.

I ticked 3-4 days because that's about how often I wash them on average. My scalp getting greasy isn't a problem, it's more a sweat problem because I'm relatively active, and once they get longer it gets really warm :D Like someone else said, the actual dreads don't get greasy at all, not for a long time.

I wash mainly with baking soda, and very occasionally with soap. About once or twice a month I soak them in vinegar to try to break down any shit that's inside them and prevent mildew/mould.

Mine doesn't get greasy. I WASH it when it gets itchy, and I run water over it when I shower but greasy, not so much.

Like Moe, I get itchy and wash long before grease ever becomes an issue.

I can go up to 8-10 days before washing but I average 5-6 as that is what fits in with my work schedule. (Wash day is always on a day off)

I've only washed mine with water/teatree oil...2 or 3 times in the last 2 mos. Only for my scalps sake though, not because of grease. I'm thinking because it's winter my hair is just super dry and not greasy at all.

I usually nowadays wait for like a week but then I discover these gross white particles in the hair and take that as a sign! Gotta deep clean someday, otherwise I use just really hot water or Echological Aloe Vera

Im in the "waiting for them to lock properly stage" and wash my hair about once a week. I currently wash my hair with BS.

PS: What would an alternative to the BS wash be? Im thinking BS wash once or twice a month but then what should I use in between?

PPS: I dont have access to Dr. Bronners where I live. I've checked!

I havent tried JUST water as an alternative to the BS wash. I'm not too sure how much grease JUST water would get out. Will try washing with JUST water come Friday.
    Thanx...
