Hi. Believe I've been meditating since 2007. Think I was better at it in the beginning than now, but o well. -um- ... The first real awesome meditation experience I had was in the the summertime probably '07 I'm not sure. I sat on my bed, pillows between my back and the wall. Time passed, just was meditating. Then perception went inward. -And outward. Very euphoric emptiness. The feeling and perception accelerated. Now I could see. The experience turned visual. A nice cool spring, the sun, bird, happiness, I was sitting on top of the stream meditating. And I just abidded there for a little while. There wasn't time there just was. And back out of the experience. On my bed, just as I was and never wasn't. A utter mind trip, utterly awesome. This happened to me. I was entirely sober, I swear. I never had that happen again. - One more before I stop here. I was in my room sitting on my bed like before, when suddenly I witnessed myself, meditating out of body, looking at me and I see -your gonna laugh; purple haze, watching me and I see purple haze. And I realize that it is love, so, I inhale it. Very groovy. - Hey thanks for reading I appreciate it. Nothing written here was untrue. I don't have a multitude of these stories that I will keep throwing because I only had those two times. Alright, shall talk to you later then bye.

I can't seem reach a meditative state, only because I don't think I have the proper breathing technique.

Any suggestions for proper breathing techniques ?

Breath only through the nose. Inhale and exhale like filling up and emptying a glass of water. From the bottom (floating ribs), upwards to the collar bones, and following with the exhale, from the collar bones downward to the floating ribs. Follow the breath, and that will support the calming of the body/mind. Some friendly advice. :]

That's a crazy awesome meditation, I've never experienced anything like that before the closest I've gotten to that is the story that I posted a while back.

if you meditate enough Or practice yoga enough.. The breath or the Air of one needs no control. With the right amount of practice . with your mouth open and still. The Air / oxygen will absorb in the lungs without the use of the diaphragm, lungs, or how ever you breath on your own....

your body will become equal pressure with the air around you. there shouldnt be any need to help your body to capture the air.. you should be completely still..

there are term to these techniques, but when you're enlightened there are no terms..

The best way to meditate is through breath observation. To do this try and sit in the lotus position and watch your breath an it comes in and as it goes out only observing it without trying to control it, if its deep breath its deep, if its shallow its shallow. observe it as it is.:)

Not true - there is no 'BEST' technique of meditation. Within some system details might have been worked out to a best means, but in the category of 'meditation' alltogether there is no 'best.'

For instance, and just to confuse things, in the Yamas and niyamas of Patanjali one adors some behaviours and abhors others, one adores some types of emotions considering them positive, while yet pone abhors others as negative.

But in Buddhist tantra poisonous emotions are not excised but themselves show various truths.

Buddhism in addition to shamatha and vippasana also has vajra breathing, visualization, mandala puja, deity sadhana, chod, music and mantra chanting and so on.

Hinduism has manasjapa and many roads not just to samadhi but as in the case of Patanjali the samyama practice.

I suggest that if you think meditation is merely one thing then you are having a very narrow view. :bobby:

I remember when I first began to meditate seriously in 06. It was hard at first. But when it clicked to when I knew something had changed is when it was like both hemispheres of my brain came together and sunk down into blackness. Clearness, and blackness. I fought it for about 9 days and then on the 10th day is when it happened. Then the next 3 years would be the most significant in my life on par with my daughter being born.

The feeling was so great that I began to do it everyday. It was relief. I began to notice that no matter how bad I felt, sickness in the stomach, headache fear whatever I was able to shake it by meditation. After a month or so I had my first meeting with the black sun. I will never forget that moment. I was meditating and this black ring appeared in front of me. I didn't think anything of it because the previous meditations involved what I personally believe were psychedlic experiences! I would see past memories from my past dissolve into rainbow colors! Like acid! Literally people started to dissolve into rainbows. The colors were brilliant . A few days later I saw the holiest of holies. A black ring that spit out rainbow colors from all directions. So brilliant, totally awesome. This happened for three days.I got comfortable the first two days and began to expect it. I was thinking there's that black ring thingy that spews colors. Granted at this point I knew. Only a 10th of what I know now about magnetic fields, chakras, vacuums or blackholes. On the 3rd day I saw the black sun and the colors were pouring out. But then the ring began to suck everything in to it including me! I immediately retreated and opened my eyes and when I did I stood up and began to see fractals still while my eyes were open and I was terribly dizzy. I couldn't believ what happened. That event horizon moment sparkeda change in thought and started me on a road to miraculous things happening to me. But that was jus a snippet, I have had much more interesting things happen but I figured I would share that...

Black sun? I always thought that was the iris of the third eye.
