Dude your atheist. God doesnt exists why do continue to use something that doesn't exist in your argument to make Christianity look bad?
It is exactly as you describe. However, For things to be so, requires being, and that being is great action. The function is, first you decide how it is, judgment, and only from this perspective do you make the observation that things should change. It is as though we were a dreamer. We dream a dream seeing ourselves figures in the dream, then we profoundly forget that we ourselves, are the dreamer. In effect in this state we see only our own past conclusions and decisions, or past learning, a "prejudicial", or judicial view, that creates a colored background against which we view the world. We see the world through the prism of our own attitudes of value and these attitudes are reflected back to us. To restore clear functioning vision of real effects is the purpose for the teaching of forgiveness. It is a process of overturning our own prejudicial views so that we can become more adept at situational awareness. "First remove the log from your own eye, then you can see to remove the speck in your brother's".
Well for one thing, someone who vilifies and persecutes Jews as "Christ-killers", would pretty much rule them out as being Christian.
I agree completely with thedope on his description of how existence comes into being. Only because it is exactly what is taught in Buddhism, and inferred to in Christianity. Inferred to comes from the recollection of the very same scripture thedope made his last quote from (same book, same chapter, three versus past) ... "A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh" (Luke 6:45) In Buddhism there is an exact teaching, and comes mighty close to being word-for-word, that of the Dhammapada, "Mind is the forerunner of all states ... If one speaks or acts with wicked mind, because of that one is followed by stress ... If one speaks or acts with a pure mind, because of that one is followed by happiness." However, both these quotes indicate that not only does one speak things into existence, but that one literally thinks things into existence. Because it has to be in the mind (heart) first before it can come out of the mouth or be acted on physically. Which gives all beings the qualities of God. Personally, I don't believe in God. But for those that do then by the power of their own mind/thinking God exists. In EXACTLY the same way, Mr. Frankenstein, that God exists as a cruel, insane bastard of a diety that he is ... And if one acts insanely, with cruelty, murderous, hateful ... however one can imagine to be the most unwholesome way to act ... then one is reflecting the image of their own personal God. This, in some likelihood is how God appears to them. Just as you, Mr Frankenstein have your own personal view of the God you have created (are creating), so too do others have their own personal view of the God they continually create. If you choose rather to claim that you don't create God in any image, then try not fixating on him so much. It's your fixating that gives it reality. Another interesting point thedope made which again is a teaching in Buddhism is that being is great action. However, Buddhism uses the word becoming in place of being, but that becoming is just a different word to describe the same event. More to the point the teachings of Buddhism would clarify this by stating that being is a result of ignorance, since ignorance conditions action. But his statement is correct none-the-less ... and thinking is an action. And, Yes ... We make it all up. So, God is whatever you want him to be, Mr. Frankenstein. Try not to be so darned adamant in wanting others to accept this view. Another teaching in Buddhism is, not getting what one wants is stressful ... HTML:
One thing though, I have heard adherents praise the "blood of Jesus". That sounds a lot to me like thank god he's dead.
Bearing God's image does not mean that we are perfect, or that God is not. It indicates that we share a quality with Him that animals do not. We are spiritual beings (and physical beings). According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, we are the only beings able to know and love his creator. We were created to share in relationship and love with God. Rejecting that relationship comes from our own end, not from Gods. Although God is not physical and we are, our spiritual animation our bodies share in the dignity of God (made explicit by the physical Incarnation of Christ).
Oh, I'm not, believe me. Just playing Devils Advocate for the sheer hell of it [sic]. Probably I'm just a pawn in some grand pre-ordained cosmic plan.
No one, and no thing causes or makes you do anything. Does not determine (ordain) nor pre-determines (pre-ordains) your future. You do. You determine the outcome of your [past/present/future] existence by the [mental/verbal/physical] actions you take. Past actions are present results. Present actions are future results. No one, and no thing does anything TO any one outside of ones own "not liking" what is being done. And, acting on that "not liking" what one experiences producing results that one acts on as well. There is no "cosmic plan". HTML:
I really loved reading your reply. I know we don't believe all the same things but it's nice seeing what you believe and the peace that your words try to bring. With that, I believe that the God that I worship has played some role in the inspiration of Buddhism. Thank you so much. Matthew 5:9
