Yes this is what people MUST do to protect themselves from government agent provocateurs. Don't you realize the Egyptian government has already killed hundreds of protesters?
That's not my point. You were being fair until you decided to blame all the trouble on government agent provocateurs and air-brush out normal human behaviour. The protests have been relatively peaceful (your words not mine) or a bloody murderous mess, with hundreds being killed (regardless of the perpetrators)...you can't have it both ways.
The Al Jazeera article I posted. But back to protests, even if Muburak agents were the ones to instigate looting and violence in everywhere it began, it doesn't change the fact that'd be the catalyst to make hundreds if not thousands of ordinary people to start doing the same. Hell even on here near 1/2 of people said they'd loot or seriously consider doing it if it was already going on: http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=419038 Some people are nihilist vigilantes who instead of coming together during moments of anarchy will instead exploit the moment for their greatest benefit. Most people though don't want no part of it, that's why by Sunday even with the police still gone private citizens managed to set up effective patrols.
the longer i live, the more i think TJ was brilliant...his advice about entangling alliances has been greatly ignored by the People's Republik of America, especially since the Korean war: http://www.lewrockwell.com/vance/vance17.html i hope to hell i don't see Mubarak given asylum here or in an ally nation...but, money will turn heads away. i heard some recorded shouting from the protests yesterday screaming about 'destroy Israel'. who knows what kind of whackadoos will fill the vacuum of power...
There's rumors coming out of the Guardian that Mubarak has left country. I'll trust it more when it's from the BBC or Al Jazeera
http://english.aljazeera.net/video/middleeast/2011/02/201121104024236375.html A little heartwarming story in it, some inmates refuse to leave the prison as they want to leave free men so they can reunited with their family and not have to worry about being taken away.
Right, most probably still fled the prison as I assume most prisoners anywhere would. It's just a slightly heartwarming story in a sea of confusion.
Sharing food and water with people protesting, those who stayed behind in prison, self imposed stations to make sure no weapons are involved...sounds pretty respectable to me.
Israel really needs to work on their PR. Guess that's been a need for years though. Now the news is saying Mubarak is supposed to speak tonight which I guess would be in the next hour or so since it's already 9 PM over there. I can't imagine why he still thinks he can still stay in power even relatively peacefully. His lame speech on Friday and attempt to fire everyone but himself has just emboldened more people to protest.
You're naive at best, and stupid at worst, if you REALLY think there hasn't been a single legitimate looter in Egypt this week. Yes, some are government agents, but there's just no denying that when law and order falls apart, some people WILL take advantage of it.
Welp, speech he just gave is essentially going to do nothing. He was right about one thing, he probably will die on Egyptian soil one way or the other.
well it appears that there were more people that were NOT looting than people that were looting, so by my calculations doesn't that make "human nature" lean more towards not stealing and being good? The only reason people are so shitty to eachother is because people keep continuing the idea that it's natural and okay to be a dick. It's not. We aren't all the same and destined to be evil, times change
