Ive been interested in meditation for a while now but every time i get round to doing a wee bit research on the subject i get pretty frustrated on all the shit online, what really annoys me is if you read a long page on a site and it looks good only to find when you get to the bottom its just some idiots trying to sell you something...again!! So i've came here to ask you folks of any good sites or books or anything just to get started because i'm lost lol Thanks in Advance
I'm in the same situation here. I started meditating quite recently, about 3 months ago and it's helped me know myself better but I feel like I should do more. Personally, I use "the meditation podcast" and "loving kindness (metta) podcast" podcasts. I've also found http://www.wikihow.com/Practice-Loving-Kindness-Meditation-(Metta) and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLvU7ppM4vE&feature=channel really helpful for a beginner. Unfourtunately there aren't any teachers in my area. I'm going to buy some books and read instructional articles on this site about it that people have posted. I advise you to do the same Good luck and i hope you find inner peace, let me know how it goes dude
Hi, There is a website that I know that offers free e-books written by MSI. He talks about a practice called Ascension. There is lots of good information on the Ishaya Foundation website if you want to plow through it. Those books certainly are worth reading. http://devabookstore.org/books-msi.html Nataraja
Chris, I know the feeling. Meditation isn't something you can package and sell. It's a way of life. A few good places to go are yogananda-srf.org - this site is put out by Self Realization Fellowship. They are a very nice group of people who follow the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda, a long since past Yogic Master and author of "Autobiography of a Yogi". swamij.com - this guy breaks down the Yoga Suttras of Patanjali into plain English. It's VERY accessible and readable. ayp.com (Advanced Yoga Practices) - this site, if still up, is amazing. You basically just want to get comfortable, sit straight if you can and relax. Breathe deeply, relax more, and focus your attention on your breath. Let the thoughts come and go and do your best not to let the thoughts carry you away (they are damn good at that). After a while practicing you will begin feeling the calm that people talk about. You can also repeat a "mantra" if you want. Mentally say "I" on your in breath, and "am" on your out breath. This helps focus and center your mind. Check out those links though, they help, and won't suck you into a "sales funnel" haha. Good Luck!
