Ok, a little clarification of my previous post. Talked to my brother who was in the National Guard. If Marshal Law is declared, then it is up to the commanding General of the deployment to establish the rules of engagement, and that is really done on a per situation basis. He was down in San Diego a couple of years ago when they had the nasty fires and they were deployed to protect property from looters, as many people were evacuated. They did not have shoot orders, but they did have "kick thier ass" orders Interesting note about that, he questioned his CO about the deployment because they were on the streets with live weapons even though Marshal law had not been declared (thats a violation of law and unconstitutional). He was pretty much told to "shut the fuck up". Another riot related funny story. In the LA riots in '91, the National Guard was deployed and were given the OK to shoot looters or violent rioters. Here is the funny part, someone fucked up and no ammunition was issued, so all those national guardsmen were out there in full gear with M-16's in hand...empty. Needless to say no looters were shot by National Guard during those riots. At least that is the story my bro tells me, and it's a kind of hush-hush subject, so not common knowledge. I tend to believe him because he was privy to some sensitive info, not just a grunt.
I remember hearing about this, the Californian guard was so underequiped they have to get bullets eventually from a military(federal) base. Meanwhile, there was essentially a Korean militia that set up operations in Koreatown that had armed men with AKs and such on rooftops shooting at looters. They had bullets and were not afraid to use them.
its not easy to break some of those windows..during the g9 in toronto this past summer they showed guys doing a full swing with an ice climbing axe at a building and all he did was put a bunch of small holes in it
I'm having flashbacks. I was working in a retail drug store the night the shit hit the fan as the manager on duty. I was seriously considering closing the store as we were watching shit unfold on the news and the rioting was beginning to spread. We were not super close, but really only a few minutes by freeway, and also groups of assholes were starting shit in random places and trashing stores all around, I guess they thought the green light had been given. Did send home one cashier as her mother lived near the area and she was going hysterical about her safety. Rioting ain't no fun when it's a few miles away.
LOL yeah, i'm pretty sure if i walked by a mcdonald's that was getting trashed, even if i just ate a big meal, i'd suddenly feel "hungry" enough to fill a bag with burgers and free ketchup packets. what?! oh and i'm lazy. and a pussy. i'd only swipe a few diamonds if someone else did all the work for me, getting in there and breaking the display cases and stuff. plus i'd need someone to hide behind. there's no way i'd instigate that kind of thing.
now the protest have spread to Yemen...i cant imagine what it would be like to be in the very middle of a 100,000 person mob of protesters
I think I would rob a pharmacy of two..lol..I'm not big on stealing, but if it's gonna get stolen anyway and I could get away with it, I would clean out some big corporate owned pharmacies like Walgreens etc..no mom and pop owned drug stores though, only big chain pahrmacies and I would get all of the opiates and Benzo's etc. they had..Other than that , I could care less about a big screen TV! Be a lot easier to steal a few trash bags full of pills in bottles!!
Especially In Yemen, everone there is high as hell on Khat, and other drugs, they all are, from young to old, lol. It's a custom for the older men of a village/town there to gather in the evening and chew Khat and talk about shit..Add the younger kids on Khat, heroin, opium, whatever they got, and all the AK-47's I see them carry on TV and documentaries and that's the last place(Yemen) I would want to be in a riot, or even not in a riot.
I said no simply because I wouldn't be anywhere near a riot. I guess it's because I live in the boondocks and would have to drive far to get into civilization. Plus, I'm just not big on material things. HOWEVER... my medications are so darn expensive so maybe I'd check out a pharmacy if one was nearby. And then there's Walmart - I hate that place enough that I think I WOULD consider looting it! oh my i'm turning into a not-so-peaceful hippie. hippies don't riot or loot, RIGHT? :sunny:
People are forgetting how ARMED people are in the US now. You try to loot a store, the owner may be waiting for you with a gun, just like the Koreans in L.A. And if not the owner, then the police/Nat'l Guard will be aiming for you. And sometimes you could be running away with your arms full, and up comes some other rioter, gun in hand, says "hand it over", and you've got nothing, or you're dead. Not worth the risk in my book, and nowadays they also have cameras everywhere recording the action, so one day they'll find you... Looting isn't cool at all, unless you have NO FOOD or MONEY. Under those circumstance, esp. if caused by those in power, you have a human right to get food. It all depends on the circumstances surrounding the looting/rioting. To loot for no good reason is definitely wrong in my book. To loot/steal out of hunger is another story. In civilized France, theft by the truly destitute is not really considered a crime. Think Les Miserables.
guns and cameras are a good deterrent for some..there is people that travel for riots and anarchy..we saw it in Toronto...in a flood situation there would be no power for cameras but some dude with a rifle sitting on the roof of his store?i will pass
Canadian riots aren't quite the same as American ones either. It's unusual, even alarming, to run into someone on the street who just happens to have a gun on their person......... unless of course they just looted a gun shop.... i'm not starving (on social assistance, so just barely getting by, but still have food every day) but i'm not stupid either. i wouldnt do it if i didnt feel pretty confident that i'd get away with it. i certainly wouldnt go out of my way to be involved in a riot, and definitely not just for the free stuff.......... but if i walked by a trashed Charm Diamond Center or a Walmart, partially engulfed in flames, heck yes i'd grab me a piece of the action!
I'd definitively loot any big, corporate, selfish corporation, for whatever. I might even have thrown a torch in there....:leaving::bomb:
