I just set down The Corrections after an intensive few months of reading. It's lengthy 500 pages is overbearing at the start, because it was so slow in the beginning. But once I got about half way through the story was complex enough to engage me throughout the second half. The Corrections taps into some underlying horrors and realizations that creep up on people throughout adult life; without it being too oppressive to read; keeping a comforting balance of truth and humor. The ability to identify with the five main characters becomes so easy because you have seen so many perspectives on their individual personalities. I also thought it was hilarious when I read that Franzen declined to appear on Oprah when we was selected as an Oprah Winfrey Book Selection because his publishers thought it would limit his audience and he didn't want to be a house wive's best seller. (Not sure how true this is, but I thought it was a funny way to accept an award) Has anyone read anything from Jonathan Franzen? Any opinions on The Corrections? This is my first post by the way.:daisy:
