a good alternative to declawing is to spray lemon mist or lemon spray on your furniture or curtains.

also..lemon oil your woodwork.

cats are repelled by the smell of lemon.

it actually works.I do it now everyday!

 

"declawing"?? ive heard that is a common practice in the U.S..is it true?

I stop my kitty's from scratching furniture by investing in a great big scratching post. They are also detered by citrus scents..im with you on that one

 

I wouldn't say declawing is common, but people do it. I bought a bottle of some "cat repellant" stuff at a pet store once and it worked really well. Made the furniture smell nice too.

 

You could just keep their claws clipped. That's what I do. I only have to do it about once a month, or whenever they start to feel sharp again.. That way they can still try to scratch but not cause any harm.

 

Would have nice knowing years ago.... My kitty cat shredded up some of our stuff like crazy!!
