leave it all behind... live in the moment... kids get out of highschool and are like now i gotta go to college... NO NO NO.. leave it behind... once its learnt.. its learnt.. leave it behind.. never look back and only move forward... do what U feeeeel... too many people today live within a structure that is formed to be as "the norm" this is what i should do yadda yadda.. the highschool>college>career is no different than being blinded by a religion... its all BULLSHIT... take life as it flows... eb and flow... i hated school.. i was ignorant.. i look back.... i made horrible decisions... but at the same time.. now i look at it... im a generation... or two ahead of the people im in college with... but at the same time.. i have more knowledge than those kids could ever imagine attaining in school... sure.. you can learn to write a resume.. get a degree.. but they dont teach you how to sell yourself.. give you that swagger of someone who has been in the workforce for awhile.... youngins disagree.... but when you're graduated and waiting tables.. come talk to me then.. i see it all the time... people not knowing what they want when they go to school... end up with some BS degree and now they can't use it.. i've lived... i've been in nature.. i've learned my surroundings... now its where i want to focus my energy... it took a decade to focus this energy... but focused energy is much stronger than unfocused energy...

i guess basically all im tryin to say.. besides that im completely trippin face... is that take life at the speed you want.. dont speed.. dont slow.. dont cruise control... drive forward with an intention that one day.. you will do something... and remember.. not always is your first instinct the correct one

retrospectively looking back at this thread like i said i would... now that im clearer headed... the "too" was definitely in relevance to the "too much" people put too much un-needed pressure on themselves.. especially youths.. and especially youths at that transition of post high school... with what they should do with their life.. thinking they need to jump directly into college.. then wonder why they failed at it.. it wasn't the right time.. "too" early..

guess this post was more of a retrospective of my life.. i did what was expected.. graduate hs... go to college... it didnt work out.. wasn't into it.. really... i just dedicated 12 years to schooling... and now another 4-7years? i needed a break.. I liked cooking.. never perused it in a scholar aspect.. i lived by the motto "cooks are born.. not taught"... years went by.. i had cemented myself in the workforce.. solid work for the past 8yrs..(not many college students or post-grads can show this).. finally i was ready to "leave" what i once thought i wanted to "B"... and actually peruse my education.. a decade later... knowledgeable.. not by books but rather by life lessons.. and now am ready to incorporate the book side of things to actually one day have a career I enjoy...or for at least 7 years(statistically people change careers every 7 years)

in the end... just passing on examples to the younger generation that may also be in such conflicts

i feel where you're coming from, but i can't help but kinda take offense, since i'm a grad student. i've worked pretty hard to get two degrees in biochemistry. not only the course work, i had a job during college too. now school is my job since i get $25,000 per year to get my masters (done) and Ph.D.

again, i do see your point though. i've made some mistakes in my life that turned out to be fine. i mean things that society might label as failure, but i have no regrets because i am who i am today. psychedelics have a major part in helping me to go with the flow. and sometimes i wonder if i'd be happier without pursuing a very challenging career that i don't feel like i LOVE completely, but shit...i wanna earn a decent living. two of my best friends are on a similar path as you with traveling and working as cooks. they are pretty happy in their lives, but they too have their disappointments. the old cliche...to each his own.

I think you guys should take OP with a grain of salt, considering 2c-b.

However i do agree, i know lots of people who went to college just cause they were expected to go, got a degree in some BS they didn't really want and now regret it. There are of course people who know exactly what interests them and what definitely doesn't will attending college. It is sad to think people get stuck in careers they hate just cause they couldn't make a good life decision at 18-22.

im not mocking anyone... i've worked as a cook in a college town for over a decade... you can't even imagine the amount of cooks/servers that are post grad and still stuck working at a restaurant... sorry if you took offense...

@porkstock... thats awesome that you are getting paid to get your PhD... not often is that the case for most people...

No offense taken, I just have a low threshold for drug-induced epiphanies and ego.

its just a system man, its how they can control all these people, raise the kids, let the kids go to school, teach the kids if they dont go to college your going to fail at life, kids graduate, go to college, take out a big loan, owe money for the rest of there lifes, go to college, graduate, work a job, pay off there depts, get a car, house, wife, family, send there kid to school, till that kid goes to college and gets into debt. its all chains. its just to stop people from causing choas. its a trap. its the system. we are all processed like little sheepies, and psychedelics happen to wake you up. gratefully i never took out a loan, and i never got into debt. but so many of my friends got sucked right into the system. they owe all this money they dont have, and now they are forced to pay it back, they go to college, to get this job, to pay back all the money they paid to get that job with.

sure they get a good job with a steady pay, a couch, a tv, internet, a kitchen and bedroom with a bed.

i dont even know what i would do with a couch and a tv, a kitchen or a bedroom. sit i guess? stay in the same spot and be comfortable as i watch my life pass me by while i wake up and work the same job everyday? to make more money to maintain this life of comfort? i guess, some people are into that. im not really into that. thats why i have everything i need on my back, why i can go place to place picking up jobs here and there to make what money i need to get by and move to the next place. why i trade and share, work and help, id rather help someone for a place to stay for a bit then move to the next one. when the weather is cold go to where its warm. keep moving, keep living, keep moving, i have everything i need right on my back.

food, water, some sunshine. and maybe a flower. and the occasional ticket stub ;)

i couldent live a stagnant lifestyle full of working the same job, making money to pay for things like cars, and big screen tv's. i just got to keep moving, got to keep floein

each is to there own though.

I think you are throwing the baby out with the bathwater. It's fine that you don't like commercialization - but that isn't the only aspect of society.

I'm in a state and place where this incredibly helpful.

To bad peops don't help like this in verbally in high school...

...Maybe they do, but to the wrong peops. ..

Edit: lol I'm spreading some things out of this thread to a few peops at my school. Gonna share the shitload. Some. Some peops added a negative shitload...assholes..

i agree here... education is a very important aspect of life and making life good for yourself... sure there is debt.. there is always debt... why? because 98% of people can't just throw down $100,000 for a house... but what is house debt? its really just paying rent until you finally own the place you call home... and then yes.. somethings are luxuries.. you don't have to own a car.. you can walk.. bike.. etc.. or you can buy a car that doesn't cost you $9k or more...
