I'm part of a environment activist group. 4 of us, (not including me) went to Peru to see and talk fist hand with the farmers and other officials. So yes, I will admit that I am operating on information they have given to me.

I've been told it's the same old problem.
One government official is screaming it's real but the goverment official in charge of agriculture is saying something else. And those that are left are too scare to say anything or are just iliterate poor people that don't count.

Since then everyone has been trying to get their hands on official documents to blow this open. It looks like they are trying to get someone to do a Wikileaks leak or similar.

So you attack this one aspect of his slightly rant-ish argument... but ignore what you know he's saying.

It doesn't bother you, these species that have survived and evolved with us through genetic diversity, even within the samples we breed and choose, being mixed with, (PERMINANTLY destroying our ability to cultivate these purely naturally bred seeds) these fucked up wannabe super plants, with lots of potential (and currently invisible) negative outcomes?

Also, while he might be a bit on edge about suicide seeds, how about the fact that these mix with your crops, wether or not you like it, and you can be legally liable and owe the company money? How about the fact that lots of these may not have fertile seeds, so you do have to go buy more seeds the next year, instead of taking seeds from your crop? how about considering what happens when they mix with practically ALL of that species, and the real natural species goes extinct, and the whole world must buy seeds from this seed company to eat?

It sounds great on paper. Zero water plants, etc. But as with most things that look too good to be true....

Of course there's potential to GMO plants. The problem is GMO plants that still produce pollen and the like. They should be legally required to make them not only sterile, but unable to produce any sort of gametes or gametophytes.

In my past arguments I've made very clear where my sources came from. A good example is my points on what exactly is a "real law", how it works and how it differs from statutes. Therefore I have proven that I'm thorough and methodic in my research. I don't open my mouth until I'm certain I know what I'm talking about. (And that is why it's easy for me to defend my ground. )

Unlike the majority of the stupid idiots of the Facebook gang and the other ignorant Internet hoards. Who are really a collective majority of dummies that just want to make their "little comments" and then go back to blowing sunshine up their own asses.

So let me make it clear, everything I've said on OGM is true. If you want the sources, you're going to have to get off your ass and get involved in enviromental activism. Because I'm certain Fox News or Yahoo are NOT going to spoon feed you the information any time soon.

    --------
The Internet was supposed to be so many things. Everything from the best educational resource ever invented to a way of unifying people all over the world.

Instead it's a repository of dummies and social morons that believe on some level that if they accumulate enough virtual friends their USB drive will turn into a vagina providing them with an alternative to their hand.

I am sorry to point out that while you may be vigorous in the defense of your position and "believe" in a position espoused by some book, a jury of peers finds your position to be far from fact

This statement is a typical ego device where you gain superiority by denigrating large swaths of humanity.

Actually no it's not, therefore I will not be looking to you for information regarding this topic.

So this is your m.o. as an internet user

    I'm not "attacking" anything.
I'm asking fairly reasonable questions in, I hope, a moderate way.
I've not reduced myself to personal attacks. And I won't start now.
I was interested to know if what he was saying was true.
I couldn't find any evidence it was.
I thought I knew what he was saying.
I don't think the seeds he was talking about exist.
    I'll happily be proven wrong.
As for the tomatoes in Peru...I've not found any evidence of that, either.
I'll accept the information he? is going on might be just personal opinions of others.
Do you mind if I don't take it as gospel quite just yet?

    Not at the moment.

I don't think it relates to "suicide seeds".

So you DO want "suicide seeds"?

Thanks for clearing that up. Thanks for your candour. I'll await any leaks in the future.

I want you to go out and do your own research. In fact I insist that you don't take my word for anything because I'm a fucking nobody on an Internet forum. Personally, I would love you to prove me wrong and make me look like a fool. Because being made to look like a fool means that the "threat" I was led to beleve is NOT there.

I started my "process to enlightenment" with the Green party in Switzerland. It might be a little far for you, but try and find a local enviromental group. You'll get access to a lot more information and resources than what is on the Interenet.

    Really? Fair enough.
I do my fair share of research.
One question: why do you speak like what you are saying is always true and those that do not agree with you are, basically, sleeping idiots?
That is what was basically pissing me off at the very beginning.
All I really ask is for you to reassess your research.
Admit if you are wrong and indulge in a spot of humility like I know you can.
Heck, I might bee wrong too.
    Prove me wrong too.
I don't have to be right.
If you ever find any solid research for some of your so-called facts, please do share.

I don't think that is true.
I can get varied information from the Internet.
Infact I prefer it to talking to partisan sources in real life.
If I were to talk to groups such as the Green party I would only get one perspective...am I wrong?

You just said that the same thing that doesn't relate to suicide seeds means I want suicide seeds.... You don't seem to have the botanical understanding to discuss this.

"They should be legally required to make them not only sterile, but unable to produce any sort of gametes or gametophytes "

Aren't "suicide seeds" sterile and unable to produce any sort of gametes or gametophytes?

Please correct me where I am wrong.

that GMO trade dispute was not a secret . farmers were quite aware what the U.S govt was doing ... arm-twisting . farm magazines reported on it and there certainly were some discussions at the coffee shop .

bt Corn when bugs bite it they die

well , to say to hell with bugs is common enough (but inane). so it was widely promoted and planted . whether gmo or not the corn crop they harvest IS the U.S export that balances trade . thus the war . the Euros argued one property of btCorn could , once in the food chain , severely reduce the affect of Penicilin which Euro medicine still relied on .

here on the farm we worry about the balance of bugs . the monarchs don't come anymore . we pray for revolution , and this is a Life thing and politics is not much to do with it . it is happening . life is strong .

As I've been aware of them, it's as was described in this thread, seeds that "expire" and can't be saved for a year, and/or seeds with pollen or other reproductive means that damage or disable close species. perhaps not destroying them the first time around, but once it's sufficently worked into, say, all the corn in an area, after a few years it's just not possible to make your NON gmo seeds that mixed with the GMO ones germinate.

This is, of course, a challenge in fruits, because we need the fruit part of the plant to eat, you can't just make it not grow... but something must be done that prevents these seeds from mixing with the natural ones, in my opinion, to safeguard the whole worlds food supply. Like how when you release a new version of software, you don't just take the original source code, and delete it... you save it, for when the inevitable fuck up in the new program requires that you revert to the old version while(if) rewriting the newer version.

Because the average person is a sleeping idiot that refuses to acknowledge anyone or anything that is't whispering sweet nothings in their ears. You really have to kick them hard in the ass multiple times before they'll get off of it.

    I ask you this.
Would the world be this fucked up if the average person was willing to make even the smallest of efforts to right injustices or address the problems we face as a species?

The average person logs on to the Internet not looking to educate themself about the world. But to be entertained.

The Internet is a shit medium. It really only tells the story from the perspective of those currently in power. Add to that it really only represents american point of views. Because if for no other reason than that the search engines and all the large "social networking sites" are american owned and operated.

The same problems americans have in the world exists on the net. That is they are shocked to find out that there are other cultures in this world and people that actually don't speak english. If you need a good laugh, I suggest you visit Turkey and watch americans walking out of a public toilet

The Greens are only a starting point and I suggested them because they were my starting point. The Greens only concern is the enviroment and not politcal dychotomies. Still, you need various other sources. In 2010 their is so much bullshit that you have to play detective.

The important thing is you need to do enough exhastive research from multiple independant sources that you are personally satisfied that you have the facts. And always find out who is behind the source and who pays them.

    Because

As far as the Internet goes.
Ask yourself if you really think american company is going to talk shit about the United States or other firms that might be potential clients? (They'll be happy to sell google adwords to Mansanto and perhaps they already do)

As far as politicians are concerned.
The get money from big companies. They are never going to bite the hand that feeds them.

As far as the media is concerned.
They want their money from advertising. They won't say shit againts any political party that supports them. (Case and point, Fox news) And they are never going to talk shit against a company that buys ad space.

because "they" will never really "get off of it" - they never have before, right?

the issue here is crops, which is humans growing plants for human use

let the "sleeping idiots" eat whatever they want, what do you care?
