    Read something that said a tablespoon of sodium hydroxide is about 15.3 grams. Is that actually true?

    There are about 15 ml in a tablespoon and lye weighs a little over 2 grams per ml, so no.

    there is no way of knowing without knowing the granularity mate (powder is different to granules which is different to flakes), and pH matters a great deal in pharmaceutical chemistry, so check with scales.
