Take it to Facebook and begin networking. Its a great animal welfare tool. Ive seen people set up pages and bring enough attention to a cause that it results in action pretty quick. Also, I have never seen more people fired up or wanting to act, than when someone posts up a story about an animal. There are so many people who would become furious about this story, and speak out, get it in the news, etc. What you need now, are dozens, hundreds of people voicing their opinion along with you! It will look bad on the officer renter and owner... and Im sure they wouldnt like that kind of negative attention... especially if the FB page gets mentioned to the local news...

Make a page, share it with some friends (preferably local) and ask them to pass it along to their other FB friends. Sounds crazy, but it does work.

You know... this would have never occured to me, but it is likely the best thing I've heard now that you can't do this on the hush....

Lynn, you make the page, and we'll make sure you get it started off with people supporting you.

At the risk of sounding like an idiot, here goes: I have a facebook page, &(neice like sister) helped me...at any rate, when trying to post it and tell this story Every Time No Matter What, it always said too many words. wth? I have seen various posts forever long...at any rate...I do greatly appreciate the thoughts, and if I were not basically scared - like seriously - of this dude, I might would do just what you have suggested - and maybe ask for some help?
I just had to tell you how miuch I appreciated your thoughts. The up-to-date story will follow.

I've actually been busy on the computer contacting different local (SC) animal groups, and dear God in heaven, wound up talking AGAIN with "an officer", I recall identifying himself as the Animal Control, Abuse, and Neglect Officer...seems he got this special call from one of the ladies that is from one of the groups I found (though a most special HFer :)). I really thought this lady would contact somebody special in authority, that SHE knew - but NO - trying to even tell the beginning of this rather bizarre tale (if I say so myself) was all but impossible! It was like trying to reason with a donkey with a nail in its head!!!

He continuously interrupted, even yelled at me to LISTEN TO ME NOW when I said yes, yes...hell, he had paused, I was agreeing with what he was saying...guess I spoke at the wrong moment. He never even really let me tell him of the incident with the firecrackers (my friend and my mother were there! - my friend said she thought the were real firecrackers or a gun, not poppers - she came a little bit after my mother and I were there.
I made a point to tell him of my fear of this man for myself, my mother, and our animals...this jack leg proceeds to give me this (what I have since learned is WRONG) lecture on "leash laws on cats in the country"...to which I was allowed to express my great surprise at this...even tho' he was quickly told that I was looking at all of mine now - except for the one I WOULD ADOPT but is TRAPPED IN THE BUILDING. I reiterate (not sure he knew that word)
that I am not interested in my and/or my mother being alone with this man...and that he should know I have more people praying (this is TRUE) about this and wanting to help than he has any idea.
I was "allowed" those last 2 sentences in a row - and that was it. :p

He told me, 2 times before we hung up, after I told him of the many prayers going up about this...he said "that is why I or someone will come out there today". He never ever showed nor called.

I still have my faith, and belief; but I can assure everyone it is NOT with a single damn shitting earthly authority, This nail-in-the-head-jackass officer
was like trying to explain, go quickly over a 20 chapter book...and this ?idiot?
simply refused to listen nor hear anything beyond the 1st chapter...maybe 1 1/2 ch. not 2. :(

I really do believe something can (and indeed) will happen. This, too, shall pass. (believe that's from the bible) Just before I logged in I had just returned on an alone mission tonight (there was too much "traffic", I felt, for me and mama tonight so she went along)...with a pitcher of water and I managed to (since it was so late and quiet, for just that time) push some meat cat food under the door to her. She is very alive. Oh yes.

I plan to have BB home....have already prepared a place for her in the basement...but we all know that the cats will roam our 2 acres and more, surrounded by country (but for that flippin cement block building and one neighbor, just one that's seeing close...ya know?) when this horrible situation is done.

I believe she is so smart, she will hide and NOT eat any poisoned food that he will put out. I guess I just have to believe that. At any rate, I really do not want any publicity about this, and my mother - 91 yrs old - but sharp as a tack and the Ruler here (really) also would shun publicity about this.

I'm saying the good ole boy system is alive and well in SC and this evil man is definitely in it...and it's just 2 widows here, of course, with our animals . (5 cats, 1 dog & 2 regular cat outside-porchers. (They can barely stand each other and no others. All our cats are fixed and all rabies kept up to date!

I have just found that out or rather been reminded the hard way, and in a way I will not forget...about that good ole' boy system. I don't care what a person calls themselves - this sorry jackass that threatened that I better hope I get my hands on that cat before he did calls himself a Christian. I have discernment, and have seen that he is evil...perhaps this belongs (partially) in another forum? but...I feel that anyone that would act as this man has acted, and any one that hurts animals, abuse, neglect or whatever has an evil darkness I know I don't .
If you had seen the evil hate and malice with which he looked at me when I tried to talk to him, to calm him with the poppers - it was unreal. I guess I'm saying this is the type of person one might run up against when trying to fight animal abuse, huh.
This nightmare has turned into a spiritual journey, plus some nightmare still there...but, BB will be alive another day.
If any of y'all pray, please do...if you want to send BB some positive energy, I'm sure she'd appreciate it.

There's danger out on the nations' roads
They're paved with snakes and flattened toads,
And truckers drive in rigs so big
They can flatten a cow, or a horse, or a manatee!
And those who survive are a lucky few,
But there's one brave cat who made it through
And I'm here to tell the tale to you of Sailcat.

    Sailcat? Sailcat!

He was huntin' for mouse to feed his face,
When strange radiation from outer space
Turned him into a super invincible cat!
When a truck ran him down with a hideous splat!
Ah, he couldn't be killed, but he still could be squished
And he lay in the passing lane shakin' his fist
Then some kids helped him fly with a flick of the wrist
And that was the birth of Sailcat.

    Sailcat. Sailcat.

He chased after that truck like a buzz saw unleashed,
And he sliced it in two like a knife through a peach
One truck half took the high road, the other the low
And the message went out on CB radio:
"Breaker, breaker, lookout, watch your back
    Be afraid there's a Frisbee-like cat who's a mighty sharp blade."
So the feared and revered reputation was made of Sailcat.

    Sailcat. Sailcat.

He's been known to chop redwoods and stop a whole fleet
When a family of tape worms was crossing the street
And when mom's having troubles with thanksgiving plans,
He has even dropped by to help open some cans
Or when someone's depressed and has had a bad day
He unerringly knows just the right things to say:
    SAil Cat..

Was difficult finding the lyrics.. but if you had sailcat, he could help you..

Is this still the situation? and if so, if you know that the cat is still alive and in there, what kind of lock is on the door? is it a padlock on a hasp? a knob? a deadbolt?

If it's a padlock on a hasp, see if either side of the hasp was installed wrong, and has screws showing. If they're put in right you can't just unscrew the hasp, but how a lot of people do it, it's that simple.

If it's a doorknob try using a pair of butter knives or something, and possibly something that can reach behind the bolt, to slip the bolt back by degrees. Sometimes if you can get the tool behind the sloped part of the bolt because of a loose fit, a blow to your tool will pop the bolt back.

If the plywood is on the outside, and it's screwed on, you may be able to unscrew it, and if you had to break a window behind it, he'd never connect it to being you or even notice for a long time if you replaced the plywood properly. If it's nailed, and you have a claw hammer and/or crowbar, you may be able to remove the nails.

If the door is a standard swinging one, and incorrectly installed, the hinges may be on the outside, or have screws on the outside, in which case you can use pliars to pull the pins out or just unscrew the whole things, respectivly.

There is information on picking locks on the internet, though it is difficult and takes practice and tools, which may or may not need to be purchased specially, depending on the type of lock. Some padlocks can be slipped, using a shiv tool that slides down the bolt and unhooks it, made from soda can or something. This information, as well, can be found on the internet. A padlock can also simply be cut with boltcutters, and replaced with an identical one (which he obviously won't have the key or combination to.... which would be funny) and there are algorithms and techniques for some models of combination locks, ALSO available online.

If the structure is cheap and uninsulated, it may have a roof made of corrugated metal or plastic nailed or screwed on cross beams. If this is the case, you can use a hammer or screwdriver to remove the fastiners, if you have access to a ladder.

Of course, all these methods depend on having some privacy with the building, won't work if it's in a place where people can appear quickly and suprise you.

Lastly, if there's any local gangs or anyone who would do that sort of thing, you could stage a false flag operation, go the sledgehammer route, leave some drugs or something otherwise out of character behind, and some graffiti identifying that gang. If you do anything blatant, make sure you're not seen purchasing supplies, that you wear gloves and don't get cut or lose hair or clothing, and that you get RID of all supplies RIGHT after. But of course, this one sounds like a bad idea.

If you have a digital camera, a few pictures would help my criminal mind scheme more effectivly....

*edit* I like cats, if you couldn't tell...

Roo, you have asked just the right questions...only there are no good answers. There is a huge padlock attached to what is close to a logging chain PLUS just a regular door lock.
Believe me, I wish I just knew how to or knew somebody that could pick those locks...I might even could butter knife the door - but it is solid - steel. Attached completely inside..no outside attachments but the door knob. The wall-sized plywood is securely inside - like maybe he has heavy pieces of machinery holding the plywood in place, and maybe screwed in place at a couple of places...but the windows are behind the padlocked fence...I just made sure and looked at where I knew the windows were (from visiting the previous renter years back.)

If you will send me a pm with your e-mail address, I know how to e-mail a pic. (lol - even I can do that to an email address). I've got a pic I know, or may even take a good one right at the end of our driveway tomorrow (well, technically today) - but don't know how closely you could see the locks...anyway...I'm very open to ideas.

I have been honestly using all my courage just to slip over there like a shadow in the wee hours of the morning to try and water her, and if we get lucky I've been getting some food on a knife and getting that under the door.
I just hate my limitations, but I am aware I definitely have them. An honest and very]fast lock picker is what I need. Just to get her out.

It's a very rural area, with no gangs, etc...this evil piece of doo-doo probably wouldn't even get busted if drugs were planted on him!!! Since I feel he is quite aware of my talking to people at Animal Control or who the hell ever the 2 idiots were I talked to but did nothing - relatively anything short of picking that lock so that he could NOT tell anybody had opened it, would be blamed on me, I can assure you. Really that has become a (silly) dream of mine- that the door is unlocked, just long enough for me to get BB & evil-renter Not be able to figure out how the cat got out, for he knows there is a cat in there!

What is Most Almighty Important (around here) is Correct Procedure and that the renter is considered the owner and he can do WHATEVER he wants. yay huh...

He already reminds me of one of those people you read about that snaps and shoots up their families, a store, hacks up ppl...and ppl will say "oh, he seemed nice." bla bla I just don't want to do something he thinks that I maybe did. Some things he would never expect of me...such as I don't think he was expecting me to continue pursuing this, altho its done precious little good. Don't ever underestimate the good ole boy system in SC. (yes, I just got sick a little bit).

As I've said before I already know he can't stand me, he practically proudly hates cats, and I'd be stupid if I did not acknowledge that and have a healthy fear-relating-to-survival regarding him. Its not just me I find myself worried for...psychos can settle for animals and friends and family too! Especially when they have already threatened the animals!

^^I can just imagine him or somene like that snapping, killing, maiming, and saying " I told em". yuk yuk yuk

Unbelievable. Just unbelievable. Lynn, you mean to say that absolutely no one in the TV biz around there is willing to do a story on this or someone at a police station can't or won't talk to this guy? No SPCA there? PETA? I don't get it. Maybe because I never lived in a place like that. This guy sounds like he might even shoot someone there if he was broken into. You need some publicity and some outside help.

    i sent you my address.

If there's no direct action possible, if you can get me the guys personal info (home location, full name, license plate, phone number, photos, anything else) I know a website that could probably help, and bring such massive attention to him that he would have no choice but to be cooparative. The internet likes cats.

Also, if he's renting it, while renters have strong rights, so does the owner, and if you tell the owner that the renter's locking animals inside his property to die, then he could be liable, or just a good person, and help. He could, with 24 hours notice, force the renter to let him inside, without throwing firecrackers around. Also, if you have a video camera, record your interactions with these people.

I'm posting this to keep a record, one might say...as well as let you kind and compassionate people know that things are going to be okay...and I mean there is a plan in place.

Since technically I didn't make this plan, it will probably take place! (as it should have the day after Christmas!) Anyhoo, today I was led to my own (imo) modern day Moses that doesn't attend church, but has a righteous heart, who I have known a Loong time....and just happened to be in the diner where I work - and we were able to talk with No Interruptions (which is a miracle in itself, if any of you has ever done restaurant work).

My Moses is 6'5", long whitish-gray (but very clean and nice :)) hair, strong and absolutely fearless. Semper fi! When he heard my BB for himself (while I was at work)...he approached evil renter...at this point I don't know the "conversation" between them...but evil and my Moses are supposed to meet over there when evil gets out of church. Isn't that just the funniest thing?! I've always said going to church means nothing in and of itself - anyhoo...

Should evil think he's not going to do right, I know beyond the shadow of a doubt that my Moses will make sure however he needs to - justice is done and BB can come home.

I've learned that going the "official" route is totally useless as is speaking to animal groups - tho they mean well, and I am serious here - most of them do...some just want some publicity with the animal or person's safety last on their mind. For many groups, it has a lot to do with where you are located. SC isn't very high on the list...but the groups will still try to help....only it seems that truly they are limited to going the calling-the-animal-control in your area route.
