This may seem sort of random, but...
Someone in my community service group, during a conversation about sexuality, queried if anyone else had noticed that bisexuals "seem to know everything". Because I am bisexual, this intrigued me on a personal level (and flattered me quite a bit...lol). The interesting part is that the top four people in my graduating class (those with the highest GPAs) were all self-proclaimed bisexuals...Uncanny right?

I mean, obviously being bisexual doesn't mean you're a genius. But perhaps being enlightened or intelligent allows you to understand that love defies gender... Hmmmm...

So, I was just wondering...Anybody else notice a correlation? lol.

In general, I hope this makes you smile. :)

I think there is something in it.

Our brains learn a lot by pattern matching, if growing up attracted to both genders, you pay more attention to a larger section of people, learn to read their body language, facial expressions, tone of their voice.

Thus all that frontal lobe stuff gets exercised more over time has a spill on effect to other areas non related to reading faces; memory recall, problem solving

You could make the same argument about growing up in an urban setting vs rural one. More interactions, more faces read, more external stimuli over time just simply walking around an urban setting vs a rural one.

Nature vs Nuture, Nuture is about the environment, the more complex the environment......

I can see it in those guys down the end of the spectrum, the ones near 100% straight tend to be more mysoginistic, more frustrated with women, more aggressive. Is that because they are more masculine, theres more testosterone in there so they are more likely to be aggressive. Or is it because growing up they spent more time looking at women below the neck, never much bother with reading their faces or body language, thus grow up being less able to red women and get frustrated because of that. There are some very masculine gay guys, bears and the gym junkies, so I tend to rule out masculinity have much to do with it.

And I see it down the other end of the spectrum, near 100% gay, they are a lot better at reading women for the most part, but are clueless when it comes to differentiating between when a girl is flirting with them or is just friendly

Then there are those one step ahead of all that, straight guys that purposely act more aggressive around females, gay guys that purposely act more clueless around girls

As for the topic at hand, read up on back propagating algorithms, neural nets, how the brain actually learns, some computers and software are modeled on how the brain learns, might give you a different view on sexuality, how much of it is learned, and the scary part - how much of it is learned without us even realising it cos our brain does certain things faster than we can keep up consciously. Our sense of smell, reaction to pheremones in particular all works on a subconscious level

Comes down to what a person is. Are we one thing, or are we 5 senses and a brain in an outer shell, and that brain can be divided into a dozen parts

What if your sense of smell is really gay, but sense of Vision, hearing, touch is ultra straight

What if your a guy and your just born with a sense of smell that doesnt work as well compared to the norm, not as good at picking up female pheremones, not going to get aroused as much by the smell of a female, little more likely to be bi at the same time vision and frontal lobe get trained to overcompensate over time to read signals from women, guy ends up being better than the norm with things like pattern recognition and problem solving.

Your brain doesnt stop developing till around 21, and it never stops learning

^ Dear Xenu, that was actually interesting!

I can't endorse the idea that bis are smarter, but I'm sure not going to deny it.

Then theres another way of looking at it, the kind of stuff Darwin was on about.

How much of our sexuality has to do with everyone else, rather that us. Are smarter people seen by everyone else as less volatile, less frustrated, more considered and thus more likely to be bi / gay. And because most people may assume such things, they are more likley to be the subject of advances from those assuming they are bi, end up assuming they themselves are bi cos "hey, gee, I have done a fair bit of stuff with the same sex"

What we think we are vs What everyone else thinks we are

Those two concepts, our brain training us without us realising, and that way we end up may have more to do with everyone else than us.........are unpalatable to all, it means we dont have control, our fate isnt up to us

But just cos we may never really like the answer, doesnt mean its any less true

^lolol i dont even care enough to read.

    YES BIS ARE SMARTER.
    hehehe

no but really, what some of it comes down to is their span of consciousness, they've realized more of what it is to be attracted, and that kind of consciousness leads to other intelligences so to speak. thats what i think personally

Yeah but stoned I tend to do stuff I wouldnt do when "straight" ;) , like sit out the backyard on my deck chair, watch all the birdies trees and which clouds look like animals or my aunty edna, marvel at how big the world is, reflect on big picture ideals, come to the realisation that in the grand scheme of things what my boss did or didnt do they other day...well its not going to matter, so I should just stop caring about it, thus I let it go then end up more submissive at work.

So, do I end up being more submissive because of the direct chemical effects of pot, or do I end up being more submissive because the chemical effects of pot are going to make me think in a way thats going to lead me to be more submissive.

I'm really stoned right now if you cant tell ;)

A guy that works as a librarian, wears a checkered vest and a bow tie vs the plumber that wears overalls.

Which one are you more likely to assume lives with his mum, which are you more likley to assume is bi or gay.

If you were a guy into guys, which one would be less intimidating to talk to

I'm bisexual, and I wouldn't ever claim to be stupid

because that would be dumb. I see, therefore I am.

I got what you meant, just couldn't see how you would get there until now.

You must not know many loners or social outcasts -- we have sexual preferences too. Or really ugly people, for that matter.

Exactly. Ive always been a loner/social outcast, and am also ugly. At least outwordly. And I have a sexual preference, even though Ive never had intimate relations with anyone, and in all likelyhood, never will.

That's probably fetishizing bisexuality (and fetishism can be ego inflating). But, I do get along best with people who do not classify themselves as either gay or straight, and simply do what they feel like, when they feel like it.

I forgot the joke I was going to make. :D

    Exactly.

As bisexual myself, I would have to say of course we are smarter. Anyone who cant see that you could be having sex with way more people much more often doesnt seem like they are thinking outside the 'box' ;)
