exactly. psychedelics opened my eyes to the idea that just as bacteria is tiny to us and lives such a short life span comparatively to us, there are entities out there that are much greater in scale to us and live much longer lifespans than we do, and likewise there are other beings that make those beings look like bacteria, and it cycles on and on. psychedelics actually made me realize that humans are bacteria.
From the perspective of having been in heavy combat for just over a year (thus surrounded by violent death), later taking lsd with some frequency and at ever higher doses for several years, working in hospice for several years, working for many years with people who are suffering, being fairly close to dying last year, being within ~20 years of dying myself (I wouldn't want to live until 90 years) - I have concluded that ... I don't know, but I'll find out. More spiritual? Yes. There's nothing like becoming enlightened for becoming more spiritual - even when enlightenment slips away. I take psychedelic experiences very seriously. They utterly changed my life. I go to church (mainline Protestant) at least weekly. I don't believe everything that's said there, but I love the central ethical demand of Christianity: Mercy. I'm not not a Buddhist (to borrow a phrase from someone, but I don't remember who). I'll read through the responses to Chris' question more thoroughly in a few weeks when I have unfettered access to the internet, BUT, I want to say now that much of what I have read are words from sages, e.g., Sweet Blasphemy, Archemetis, Codmouse (loving you, man), and many others. Wow!
