I think that cell phones shouldn't be banned for truck and bus drivers. I don't think we should discriminate against someone just because they drive a truck. However, I believe that the trucking companies should be allowed to decide whether or not they want to permit their truckers to use cell phones while driving or not.
The use of the CB radios are damn near pasted when directions are needed. I am an ex truck driver and the cell phone saved my ass more than once
Yes it is dangerous, but what is more dangerous is trying to read a map while driving, opposed to someone giving you directions. I found GPS is not always as accurate as needed.
it is but is less dangerous than the alternative of using maps other than live instructions. on another note everything a truck driver does is dangerous, from the time the ignition is turned over to the time the engine is stopped.
Contrary to what the title of the thread says or any of the further posts, the article is not about discriminating against truck drivers, and it is not about banning cell phones from truckers. It is stopping them from USING them WHILE DRIVING... It is something that should be done everywhere for everyone who wants to drive. People are too stupid to pay attention when they drive WITHOUT a cell phone in their hand... They get worse when they are talking on a phone. Here in Ontario, there is already a law banning ANYONE from using a cell phone or other electronic device while driving. This is an older list, and Ontario isn't listed, but it gives a good idea of the laws regarding cell phone use around the world AND the various US States.. http://www.cellular-news.com/car_bans/
