Currently reading Thoreau. Planned on picking up some Emerson soon. Just finished some Hemingway so you're right in my area.
THE MAGIC MOUNTAIN! Ican't remember the author but it was published in the 20's. ANOTHER ROADSIDE ATTRACTION! By Tom Robbins
I don't really know exactly what about this made me find this statement so funny, but man you made me laugh. Thanks lol I'm reading this right now. I think that the language in the Great Gatsby is really, really beautiful, and I do understand that it's meant to be somewhat of a satire of a certain class and lifestyle, but it's kind of just about rich white people problems. I think it's worth reading for the way Fitzgerald writes though and so far I am finding it rather incredible for that reason, but yeah, I kind of think that overall it's overrated. I would recommend Carson McCullers or Herman Hesse.
The Grapes of Wrath by Steinbeck was a really good read, if a little depressing. Someone else mentioned Sons and Lovers by DH Lawrence, and I second that!
