    30 of Obama's electoral votes have moved to deep red states. This opens up a computer model where it's very possible Barack Obama could win the popular vote overwhelmingly by winning with record % in states like California while losing the now more powerful-than-ever south.

    There have been times in our nation's history where a President has won the electoral college but lost the popular vote. Most recently it happened 10 years ago. But never has it happened during a period of political polarization akin to the days of Lincoln and never has it been a case of a liberal african american potentially losing his presidency to (likely) an arch-conservative white candidate while winning the majority of the nation's votes.

    What do you think would happen if Obama won 51-49 but then is kicked out of the Whitehouse while someone like Sarah Palin is installed?

    Class warfare?

    Race riots?

    For some reason I just don't think it would be an easy pill for half of America to swallow.

    edit - Oh and I ought to mention that when Lincoln was elected - without winning the popular vote - it lead to civil war.

    I would be VERY surprised if Obama won the popular vote! I think the majority of Americans don't like him, his approval rating is below 50%, and he doesn't have Newt Gingrich to revive the economy like Clinton did in 96.

    Plus, I think you forget the Blue turns to Red very quickly once you get out of SF, NYC, LA or Chicago. California has a lot of Rednecks. I remember going skiing in High School in Michigan and they were playing country music at the equipment rental and I was like "WTF?" and one of my companions said that we were farther south culturally than back home in the geographic south where I lived in Miami. Point is, Obama can carry Michigan, Cali or NY. But those Red votes still count against him in the popular vote, which he will lose. On the flip side. We will carry many, many red states.

    What I think would be really cool, is if we voted in a strong conservative from a minority background. Tim Scott, Marco Rubio, Allen West, Nikki Haley and Bobby Jindal come to mind. Two blacks, two Indians, and a Cuban and one is a woman. They are all pretty good, but I don't think any are ready to run the country yet, except maybe Jindal. Rubio might be ready in 2016. And, yes I looked, the three of foreign ancestry were born here in the USA. All three of their parents immigrated here from Cuba or India. If we got one of these politicians in the white house, then we could finally stop all this phony racist crap talk.

    Conservative voters would have no problem voting for a black or latin or someoen of foreign ancestry, if the policies are right. And then the conservative politician would be fair to all Americans regardless of background, something Obama is not.
    Oh, and one other thing;
    Lincoln won both the popular and the electoral college.
    From Wikipedia;
    Lincoln received 1,866,452 votes, Douglas 1,376,957 votes, Breckinridge 849,781 votes, and Bell 588,789 votes. The electoral vote was decisive: Lincoln had 180 and his opponents added together had only 123.

    we already have political chaos when a corporate tool like obama is considered a socialist

    funny how conveniently it's forgotten that the high-water mark of the "american century" was during the 1950s, a time of high taxes and powerful unions
