A Renault car ad has been banned from TV in Italy because it features two lesbians in a mildly sexy scene. See for yourself! I wonder if such an ad would be banned in the US today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBNaVt4ozB0&feature=player_embedded"]YouTube - Renault Twingo - TV Spot 2010 Source: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/12/17/renault-lesbian-car-ad-ba_n_798226.html
It probably shouldn't have been banned, but I don't see how it would do there sales any good. Unless there a lot of lesbians in Italy. I mean, it's a girly looking car, so men would feel indifferent to it regardless of the advert- I wouldn't buy it anyways.
most definitely. i cant think of a commercial plotline off the top of my head as blatantly sexual in the US as that one anyways. i mean theres commercials about condoms and such but they beat around the bush. wonder if there are any guys "beating around the bush" to this video
I don't get it, Victoria's Secret commercials are sexier than that and they're on TV every other commercial break.
every other commercial break is an exaggeration but youre right. but theres a slight difference between models being shown and the actual sex which may be a breaking point for public approval, especially if its between two women
This is America , our commercials target audience is for Rapists.. are they selling shoes or Porn?... Cant find the one with the lady running in the park with the ugly shoes, then the lady with the nice shoes.. the perv in the park is looking at the woman's ass with the nice shoes.. Thats always comforting to know your shoes will get you raped.. remember ladies wear ugly shoes when jogging alone in the park..
I don't know if it would be banned or not, but it sure wasn't a good commercial... If they wanted to sell them they should have had a black car with the sex scene happening on the hood of it... I used to own a renault, but it didnt look like that.
It wouldn't be banned, they would play it on the Logo network. Do a youtube search for the gay subaru commercials
I wouldn't think the ad would be suitable for network TV programming. Also the advertiser hasn't shown a link between sex and his product. Are lesbians really stupid enough to allow themselves to be led by the nose this way when it comes time to buy a vehicle? In the shoe ad link given by Orison319, there is a link (a weak one) between owning the product and being fit, therefore sexy. It doesn't follow, as Orison suggests, that Reebok is encouraging park rapists. I really don't see his logic there. To say that being sexy and running is encouraging rape is a sexist argument that women should well object to. It's implying that the woman is asking for rape, which is certainly not the case.
Isn't that the relevant question about most advertising? What bothered me more about this commercial isn't the lesbians, it's the implication that it's somehow sexy to deceive someone and then steal their car.
Objections might seem curious at first Replace the brunette with a guy and girls would have loved the ad Replace the Blonde with a guy and no one would have made an ad where he blindfolds a chick And of course replace both with guys, and that would have never been made Interesting the diferences. But I think the main objection would have been that it implies lesbians are easy, one wink at a party and their off to the bedroom, which is more the realm of male fantasies than lesbian ones. Which is curious since they seem to be advertising a girls car
