At the St. Louis zoo, when I was little, they had a Peacock that just roamed the whole zoo. I didn't see him yesterday. I kinda wonder if he died or they started keeping him in his cage.
I used to work at the Houston Zoo, only for two weeks but I was in the commissary department feeding the Tiger, Lions, Elephants, and a few lizards. I love lions and everything but I understood why that job has a fast turnover rate.
the sacramento zoo... if it's not dead yet.. it's dying! horrible horrible zoo... i went once.. half the animal enclosures were empty and the ones with animals.. the animals looked sickly and very unhappy. zoo animals need a lot of room.. and they never seem to get it... just tiny cages.
I like a zoo that is modern, with plenty of space for the animals. No cages. As long as the animals have enough space and food and pleasant living conditions, I figure they are at least as happy as they would be in the wild, where they would have to find their own food every day and worry about being eaten by other animals. Most animals are not intelligent enough to think about freedom in the way that we do. They just think about what they want to do right now. They also live longer in a zoo, partly because they get medical care from a vet whenever they need it. It is sad to think about, but a lot of animals in the wild live for years with untreated painful conditions.
Yes, zoos are evil. Protecting species my right foot. There is a zoo near me, kind of weird walking past it in and seeing zebras in the snow.
There is a calvin n hobbes script that does Calvin - Mom wants us to know if we want to go to the zoo? Hobbes- Sure afterwords can we visit a prison? Calvin to his mom - No thanks
