Dreadful, I guess the world has decided not to live in the dark ages anymore and decided not to break their backs providing themselves with all the things you suggest humans need. Oil fuels many things that help remove the burden on humans. Unless you are a Luddite too, I think you understand we need some form of mechanical devices to help us.
Oil is just the best option so far to fuel these devices.
    Trust me, it is.
If you can re-invent the combustion engine, and show other fuels do the same thing and are cleaner and cheaper...you would be a millionaire.

crude oil aint really oil.. petroleum products are basically like large scale industrial chemistry. crude oil contains precursors that go on through processing to create the arrangements of molecules and additives all having their own properties used by industry and everyone else.

Those devices were created with the knowledge that oil and coal would be used as fuel for them. Without that fuel they wouldn't have been invented. That doesn't mean there aren't good alternative fuels out there, along with good alternative mechanisms to go along with them.

people would be utterly amazed at the amount of non-oil products that are made from the raw material

I am working towards living in the dark ages again as we speak because I believe that removing the burden of finding food makes life too easy and disconnects us from the earth. It's basically the difference between going out for fast food or preparing a home cooked meal with love and appreciation

Finding food, water and shelter are extremely easy and you'd have to be fuckin around a lot on the job to "break your back" doing it

this has got to be one of the things I hate most about the internet, every time I try and google something about anything the results always have something to do with how to get high on some kind of drug or plant or cleaning product :p

Spending your free time on the world wide web on a computer running on electricity powered by most likely fossil fuels on a piece of technology that the materials used to make it need to be properly disposed of to not create an environmental health risk isn't exactly the best way to work towards that.

Eh, it's a pet peeve of mine when people living awesome first world societies with the free time, resources and ability to go on the internet talk about how awesome it'd be to live in a society with no technology despite the fact they could be say learning how to trap, or stockpiling firewood, tending to a garden, sewing their own clothes, ect, especially when there's tens of millions of people living that lifestyle right now who'd do anything to be able to get out of it.

    /end rant.

Ahhh but to put the same point across with the finesse to mask contempt... like how people trudge to the wild, set up house in a rustic cabin with a fireplace, wood cookstove, a front yard carpeted in pine needles, the air filled with the scent of trees, and carrying the songs of many birds, and otherwise the perfect escape from this insane money and gadget mad world... and wifi so they can post about it on the web..

I do garden, I do sew my own clothes, I am very involved in wildcrafting and I'm using the internet to learn as much as I can so I can go into living without technology informed and with enough knowledge to instruct others how to do so as well. While I admit going on the road and finding this information out from other people would be more real, I'm not ashamed of using the internet or reading a book for the time being. Believe me, I have grown really tired of using the internet for bullshit reasons and my use of it has dramatically increased within the past couple years. So what I'm saying is, I understand your argument but I just don't care.
