I often sing bhajans to Shiva... who represents the one conscisouness beyond time/space and in all time/space... as well as my ideal arche-type.

However the bhajans I use are rock n roll songs from the counter-culture that have a mystical message; moody blues, grateful dead, beatles, doors and so on.

"I am He, as you are He, as you are me, and we are all together." - The Beatles

I picture "he" to be Shiva.

Arunachala! Thou dost root out the ego of those who meditate on Thee in the heart, Oh Arunachala!

May Thou and I be one and inseparable like Azhagu and
    Sundara, Oh Arunachala!

Entering (my) home and luring me (to Thine) why didst
Thou keep me prisoner in Thy heart's cavern, Oh
    Arunächala?

Was it for Thy pleasure or for my sake Thou didst win me?
If now Thou turn me away, the world will blame Thee, Oh
    Arunachala!

Escape this blame! Why didst thou then recall Thyself to
me? How can I leave Thee now, Oh Arunachala?

    (a) Kinder far art Thou than one's own mother. Is this then
    Thy all-kindness, Oh Arunachala?

    (b) Kinder indeed art Thou than one's own mother, such is
    thy love, Oh Arunachala!

    (a) Sit firmly in my mind, lest it elude Thee, Oh Arunachala!

    (b) Change not Thy nature and flee, but hold fast in my
    mind, Oh Arunachala!

    (a) Display Thy beauty, for the fickle mind to see Thee
forever and to rest (in peace), Oh Arunachala!

    (b) The strumpet mind will cease to walk the streets if only
she finds Thee. Disclose thy beauty then and hold her
    bound, Oh Arunachala!

    (c) The mind by her unsteadiness prevents my seeking Thee
and finding peace; (hold her and) grant me the vision of thy
    beauty, Oh Arunachala!

After abducting me if now Thou dost not embrace me,
where is Thy chivalry, Oh Arunachala?

Does it become Thee thus to sleep when I am outraged by
    others, Oh Arunachala?

Even when the thieves of the five senses break in upon me,
art Thou not still in my heart, Oh Arunachala?

When will that day be mine ?
    Please tell me-
    When will my offenses end
And the power of divine grace
Infuse my heart with a taste
    For the pure holy name?

When as I chant the divine name
Of Sri Krishna, will my body thrill
    With ecstatic rapture, words choked
    With emotion, streams of tears
    Flowing from my eyes-

When will I dance and sing
Like a madman on the Ganges bank
    In Navadvipa?
When will that day be mine?

-Of course..Raja Ram, which was also Mahatma Gandhis favourite bhajan.

    - Bolo Bolo -My VERY VERY favourite!!! (im a shaivite)

I just found this awesome book in Chicago - a primary source for hundreds and hundreds of bhajans composed by a variety of saints, both Hindu and Muslim. Simply lovely.

This is a Bhajan that I really love. It's a Yeshu Bhajan from the Yeshu Bhakt tradition of north India.

Here's the link to the youtube movie:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6oVLWMQ2Ak&feature=channel_page

(please ignore the guy holding the camera singing out of key. at least he's singing very soft :) )

there used to be several places on the internet where you could down load preformances of them for free. i'm talking legitimately. and without having to join anything.

    because it's a spirit thing.

i haven't the slightest idea what any of the words mean, but they are truly beautiful to listen too. maybe, probably, because i don't. but i do feel/experience them as something spiritual.

Sorry to resurrect a old thread, (scold if you want) but does anyone have any bhajans for Brahman? I'm not one to worship a specific deva. I'd much prefer honoring them all by honoring the One in them all. Does that make sense?

    I guess Aum would work...

    Om isn't a bhajan though.
A bahjan is a song. (different from a mantra) And as far as I'm aware bhajans are part of devotional Hinduism which is focused on god forms, avatars etc such as Krishna and Rama. I don't think there's actually a path in Hinduism for devotion to Brahman as the indefinable, formless, featureless.

    I know Aum isn't a bhajan.

Fine, does anyone know any bhajan for Smartism? With Vishnu, Shiva, Ganesh, Devi, and Surya? I'm sure I could find ones for each god/goddess, though.
