so i just started my dreads (2 days ago) and I'm still backcombing some in and tightening them all up every day, i was just wondering about washig them... I'm going to use just a bar of soap cause i heard that works fine.

I heard that washing them will help them knot up better cause it will make your hair dry / get rid of the oils

So will the soap help them knot up ... or do you recommend just washing them with water (which doesn't bother me) what do yo u people do/find works best

water, because you want to accustom your hair to less frequent washings

I normally wash my hair every 3-4 days. If you wash your hair with water it doesn't strip the natural oils so you don't -need- to wash as much

your hair will get oily for 6 weeks then even out and feel better than ever

^ that, or you could try mixing it with baking soda

ah, and stop backcombing them, you're supose to only backcomb once
welcome, good luck with your dreads :D

I just use shower gel to wash mine. Although I will use Lush Bar shampoos if I have them in. I like them squeaky clean.

Shower gel is failmode soap, it doesn't get anything clean. Bar soap, all day, everyday.

Then you haven't used Lush shower gel good sir. Grass totes gets my hair clean. I found that baking soda and ACV did fuck all in getting my hair clean.

To be honest, when I first started I didn't wash for a week... But then when I did they all fell out.

After that I let them go natural. I wash every 3 days, or 4 if it's too late in the day to shower (dreads take a LONG time to dry).

And I do a deep clean every 2 weeks. People have smelt my hair and they've been like "these smell good, I thought dreads smell bad". I always get "clean dread" compliments lol.

Well I finally washed them with bar soap, just on the roots, and well , turned ut great, my dreads are still intact, and now they are looking squeaky clean and better then ever.

just lifted the dreads on one side, scrubbed the roots for couple seconds, rinsed, flipped the other side of my hair over, same thing, then d the back and the front. done in like 1 minute.
