....Do you younger hip forums kids know that in 1968 there was a rumour that Paul McCartney of the Beatles had crashed his car and died...and that he was replaced by a lookalike...the romours spread like a viral video but without the internet....there was supposedly hundreds of clues...such as this album cover supposedly showing a funeral procession with the desceased having barefeet...you dont need shoes in heaven...there is a whole article on wiki about it....i remember clearly sitting in buddy's basement getting high drinking beer and ....ok so i did that yesterday too but i also did it 40 years ago and we argued about whether it was true or not:mickey:..the thread title is a reference to the license plate on the vw which supposedly stood for 'Paul Would Be 25 If''...if he hadnt died wiki article link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_is_dead
Harrison was in work clothes and last in line, supposedly the grave digger. Lennon was in front and dressed in white, the religious person doing the funeral. Can't remember who Ringo was supposed to be in his attire. McCartney's eyes look like they are closed and he's barefoot. At the end of the tune Strawberry Fields, Lennon could be heard muttering what sounded like "I buried Paul" which added to the rumor. IIRC, Lennon said he was really saying "cranberry sauce". Well, that was some of the rumor. .
i thought it was lennon-god ringo-preacher paul-dead gearge-grave digger....also...on sgt pepper there is someone holding an open palmed hand over Paul mccartney ..supposedly it is a sign for death?...the opp badge had some significance too
Oop. Ringo was the preacher and Lennon God. Couldn't remember who Ringo was supposed to be. The bottom region of the Sgt. Pepper album itself looks like a grave. .
I found this ..more complete list 1. On the cover of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, the word "Beatles" is spelled out in flowers on a grave (notice that the wax dummys of George, Ringo and Paul are looking at the grave, John is not). Amid the grave are yellow flowers shaped like a guitar. From a distance, the flowers appear to spell out "P A U L ?". 2. On the cover of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, it appears that the small doll in the green dress is looking at a toy car plummeting in flames. (Also note the small toy car on the lap of the doll wearing the Rolling Stones shirt.) 3. On the back cover of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Paul's back is turned to the camera, again signifying that he does not fit in. 4. On the back cover of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, George is pointing at the lyrics "Wednesday morning at five o'clock", the supposed time of Paul's death. (Other note: Each Beatle is making a letter for the word "love". Notice George's "L" made with the thumb, John's "V" made with the hands folded into his pants, and Ringo's "E" made by folding one hand into the other. Only Paul does not "make" a letter. He is the hole where the "O" should be. 5. If you hold a mirror horizontally across the words " LONELY HEARTS" on the bass drum on the cover of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, with the reflective part of the mirror pointing away from you, the letters in both the mirror and the album collectively spell out "1 ONE 1 X= HE/DIE". The "/" points at Paul. One and one and one is three? Paul has been crossed out? 6. The words "dying to take you away" are sung in the song "Magical Mystery Tour". 7. Inside the booklet accompanying Magical Mystery Tour, "I Am The Walrus" is subtitled, "No you're not, said Little Nicola". Apparently the walrus (in some cultures, a symbol of death) is somebody else (which is stated later in this document). The song itself fades to a death scene from Shakespeare's King Lear. 8. Inside the booklet accompanying Magical Mystery Tour, there is a picture, using a wide-angle lens, showing people/Beatles dining. If you turn the picture 90 degrees to the right and stare at a distance, the beret of the diner nearest the camera appears to be the left eye socket of a skull, which can be made out. This picture was deliberately planted; it is the only photo in the book not from the film. 9. Inside the booklet accompanying Magical Mystery Tour, on the picture showing the Beatles playing, Ringo's bass drum has a small "3" on it. Only 3 Beatles? 10. In the song Glass Onion they say "here's another clue for you all, the walrus was Paul" again with the Norse belief of the walrus being a sign of death. Also talking about Paul in the past tense. 11. If you play the voice that repeats Number 9, Number 9 in "Revolution 9" backwards, the voice says "Turn me on dead man.....Turn me on dead man. 12. The front cover of Abbey Road shows Paul out of step with the others, the license plate on the V.W. has 28IF meaning Paul would have been 28 if he had lived, Paul is the only one not wearing shoes (Europeans used to bury their dead without them) John is dressed to give a eulogy, Ringo the pallbearer (nice little pun huh?) and George the gravedigger. 12. On the back of Abbey Road the Beatles is spray painted on a brick wall, but there is a crack running through their name (signifying that the original four have been split). 13. At the end of Strawberry Fields Forever, John says "I buried Paul"(it's mixed in with the little interlude at the very end) when questioned about the statement John said" I said cranberry sauce".
I think sitting around getting high and drinking beer is probably the single greatest contributing factor to this story.
I read a book called "The Walrus was Paul" where I learned about this conspiracy and these hints. Pretty interesting book, although half of it is already in this thread.
i infact did know just a little about this although i am a younger member of the forums. Interesting post! Now i know a lot more!
I sometimes wonder if some of the death references were intentional, not for Paul, but rather for Stuart Sutcliffe who was an early Beatle but died apparently due to complications related to a head injury. Lennon was close to him. IIRC, Sutcliffe appears on the front of the Sgt. Pepper album. More rumor for thought. .
Lennon and McCartney obviously weren't always on good terms during the final years of the Beatles. After the breakup, the two were throwing musical darts at each other with various songs. Lennon wrote one called 'How Do You Sleep'. The songs 'Dear Boy' and 'Too Many People' by McCartney supposedly had lines that were directed at Lennon. More rumor and conjecture. .
Those were conspiracies about dead people who were supposedly still alive. We're talking about people who were still alive that were supposedly dead. .
so, do any of you all remember when, the mothers of invention called bullshit on this "paul is dead crap?" it was all on the mothers record entitled, 'we're only in it for the money." frank zappa was the real shit! unk:
there was rumors about what frank would do onstage as well...i seem to remember a poo eating rumor and another that he boinked his wife onstage
quite correct! there are several versions on that theme; they go along these lines, that frank zappa took a shit on stage. that he ate shit on stage. that he took a shit on stage and, then ate his shit on stage. the rumor i like the best is... that frank zappa and alice cooper had a "gross out contest" on stage. alice cooper wore steel spiked boots and walked on live baby chickens; next zappa got on stage and took a shit then proceeded to eat his own shit. both cooper and zappa said that never happen. zappa even went on to say, "some people need to have their heads examine, if they think they actually saw him or cooper do that type of sick shit!" anyhow, back to the paul is dead stuff. around the time that that "paul is dead" hoax started to die out; ringo starr stared in the movie frank zappa directed entitled '200 motels.' ringo had the staring role of playing frank zappa. there were some rumors, that ringo took the lead role in 200 motels, to call attention that frank zappa was the second coming of jesus because, zappa had raised paul from the dead. i saw zappa some years after that short lived rumor got started. he was on the dick cavatte show and, cavatte ask him about all those rumors. zappa rolled his eyes and said, "some people are more nutty then a fruit cake who dream this stuff up and, those who belive this stuff are just damn fools." :banghead: well, so much for "paul is dead." so much for alice cooper walking on baby chickens. so much for frank zappa having taken a shit on stage or, eating shit on stage. and, so much for frank zappa being the second coming of jesus.
