The approval rating of the US Congress has hit an all-time low according to the latest Gallup poll. Only 13% of those surveyed approve of the job Congress is doing. The big change came from Democrats, whose approval rating of Congress dropped 22 points in just two months! http://www.gallup.com/poll/145238/Congress-Job-Approval-Rating-Worst-Gallup-History.aspx
How sad that America is being ruled by people few voters approve. If the US was a private corporation they would've had to fire nearly everyone in Congress if their job approval was so low. So how is it these people can maintain power in the face of such disapproval?
It is a reflection of the party mechanisms endorsing candidates who are already corrupted thereby perpetuating a government that pursues its corporate agenda against the will and interests of the people and in that vein it is bipartisan in (dys)function... If people focused less on the personalities and didn't permit media and campaign rhetoric distract them from issues then we might have better people actually representing US and a government not focused on how to convince us that their agendas that are destroying a way of life for the regular guy are somehow in our interest. Perhaps people are waking up to the FACT that what they've assumed to be a legitimate governing body is a criminal organization with anything BUT their interests at heart.
-Media -Monster trucks -Beer -Celebrities Most people just don't care. People want money; they want more of it, they want to pay out less of it. Aside from that, most just don't care what politicians do, as long as they can have their satellite tv and low taxes.
except for all those monster trucking beer lovers that ballyhoo the tea party, lunar. hell, even they are starting to organize. after the initial foaming at the mouth personality chases there's actually a few who became educated and even more opinionated.
Good point, if those..uh...folks can organize, why can't others who oppose the way things are going? The agendas of the 'counter culture', or those who oppose the crooked ways of the current politicians, never get anywhere because those who feel that way never organize.
i'm all for everyone, even the trogs, getting their voices and desires heard. i mean, that's why we all get the vote. it's only fair and it's the nation we choose to live in. so if you don't like the way things are going, organize. i approve. the two party system is broken. american politics is damaged.
This got me thinking how we can justify democracy when it is never any more than 50 or 55 per-cent who want the elected people in power. If 80% I could understand but rarely does any democratic nation have this outcome unless it is rigged.
There's the No Labels party. Not exactly a grass roots group, but it reflects some of the frustration the politicians and general public are having over partisan bickering in DC. http://www.politicsdaily.com/2010/12/14/no-labels-wants-to-deliver-on-publics-desire-for-change-but/ .
Changing the voting system is another possible way of addressing the shortcomings related to a two-party system. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instant-runoff_voting .
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEzY2tnwExs"]YouTube - Rigged USA Elections Exposed This just one of the numerous court cases held, It was interesting to learn that the presidential voteing system is done via a Private organization that does not have to disclose its source code and actual information that was recieved during the election... This still held, even though there was an open display in court showing off how it was effectively done... Then you wonder why the result is everyone has no trust in this congress ? ~
We are all fucked...we live in a corporation, not a country. The elimination of the middle class is in progress. I have given up on voting. When the only choice we have are lobbyists/criminals to cast a vote for why bother? I am done.
A right to vote also includes the right not to vote. How would be anymore of a Democracy if say the other 40% went and voted for whatever name looked most appealing.
Well in that case I think I'll change my name to Moore Money. Then everyone would vote for me... VOTE FOR MOORE MONEY! I can hear the chants of the masses now... "We need Moore Money!"
Just re-invent yourself, change your name, and run as a Washington outsider. The sheeple will lap it up.
This made me think of this song and I had an awesome flashback to my childhood https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04fdm5RQ_ag"]YouTube - The Beets - I Need More Allowance
As Istar pointed out, it is incredibly easy to rig an election with no trace. So what makes you think opinion polls have any weight at all? This number is low, but so what? Even if 0% of the American people approve of their leaders' efforts, what would happen? Heh, if "they" wanted to, how hard would it be to publish next month's poll with a 90% approval rating? They know the people will keep swallowing the lies, just like they always have done. The game is rigged, democracy is dead, and the US is very much a corporate dictatorship. It is necessary to revolutionize voting protocols if you are to have any hope of lasting as a free nation. (Amongst many, many other necessary changes... I honestly don't understand why more people haven't abandoned the sinking ship that is the USA. It appears to me beyond saving.)
