I've decided to learn about Hinduism, hopeful convert(I know that's not the right term, but you get the point), and I'm interested in Sivananda and Bhakti yoga. Anyone have information? Can you practice two kinds of yoga at the same time? eace: out! Karli
Wait, I have it wrong. Bhakti yoga is a path, but Sivananda yoga is a practice involving the path. Nevermind, then.
Yoga is not about the individual types you can practice. Yoga, to paraphrase, is to yoke the bodily consciousness unto the Eternal Divine One. So, in some instances one may want to practice multiple kinds. Bhakti yoga is Guru devotion. That practice is born from the intense tangible Communion of the devotee and the Guru. By turning your entire consciousness, in every appearing form, to a sacrifice into the Guru's Presence one practices Bhakti yoga. I will share a lot more if you like, but not until tomorrow, when I will be on again. :] As you can see my presence is new here. :]
Sivananda yoga Wiki I have not personally practiced this 'specific' yoga, but there are many paths within yoga that have the same fundamental disposition of bodily health and fitness. Ultimately, look to see if the yoga is commercial (Bikram Yoga - link below), or spiritually based in Self/God realization. Bikram yoga Wiki Commercial yoga has its benefits, but limitations regarding the depth of teaching. While spiritually based yoga yokes one's bodily consciousness to the pristine nature of Eternal Light.
