Watch Bernie Sanders filibuster the Senate over the tax cut! He's against the huge tax cut for the rich and has been on the floor of the Senate speaking all day without break or food. See the live video: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/12/10/bernie-sanders-filibuster_n_795087.html
This is not a tax cut for the rich: it's to prevent taxes from going up for everyone Jan 1, 2011. I cannot believe you buy into the class warfare nonsense: income for the truly rich is usually 'passive income' and is taxed at a very low rate. To tax the rich, they need to be taxed on accumulated wealth and passive income. Will never happen. Meantime, don't believe the hype.
What usually happens is happening again. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_tax_cuts Excerpt: "WASHINGTON – In the spirit of the holiday season, President Barack Obama's tax-cut deal with Republicans is becoming a Christmas tree tinseled with gifts for lobbyists and lawmakers. But that hardly stopped the squabbling on Friday, with Bill Clinton even back at the White House pleading the president's case." .
notice how this guy has 3 posts? register to post bullshit, much? If there where proper taxes for the rich, then the wealth would be taxed as it accumulated. Guys, don't beleive this guys tea party hype and foolishness. Then again, I have no problem with a truly repersentative government with high taxes on any and all, rich or otherwise, who can afford it. But with this evil system, any taxes for anyone are an abomination.
Much of what's out there as commentary is iron clad half-truths pieced together on the premise of a lie that people are trained to accept without questioning. The tax rates- whether one looks at it as a potential tax increase to be blamed on the Democrats or as simply allowing temporary rates to sunset as set up by a Republican president will make little difference to us stuck at the end game awaiting what eventually comes down. It seems that neither party is above holding unemployment benefit extension "hostage" in the interest of their political agenda. How anyone can actually think either side of the aisle has the public interest at heart hasn't been paying attention to what has gone on for decades without letting some pundit tell them what opinion they need to have. the only time we ever really seem to register as actual people with them is during an election year.
It happens every day, except for this last year. It's called the Estate Tax, or Inheritance Tax. It can be used to cut the rich down to size. Just make it something like 50% and see how quickly the Federal Debt disappears...
Just on this part of what you said... While I will agree that all political parties are out for the same thing (keeping themselves in power), I won't agree that they are all the same. The republicans favor the rich in their agenda to keep in power. The democrats favor the middle class... They all ignore the lowest (and most in need of help)... Seems that the choice in the US is (and seems to be set up to stay this way) between either the dems or repubs... I tend to favor the dems... Much like up here... Although we do have more parties to spread things out, it pretty much always comes down to liberals or conservatives (what we have right now)... and as in the states, I prefer the liberals because they are closer to what I want to see... Now, in terms of voting, I always vote for the green party. Not that I think they will do everything better, but simply because as a party, they have not got into power and fucked us... yet
He has the throat of a non stoned teenage though, my friend and I were watching a portion of it and realized it took him over 2 1/2 hours to even take a sip of water at one point.
How long did he go on for? The last thing I saw was like 8.5 hours? I saw the record on one of the stories about this is 24 hours and 8 minutes or something stupid... made me wonder if they get to stop to eat or piss?
C:Span said he started at 10:26, and he ended the exact moment Jeopardy came on(I remember thinking damn he stopped but at least it was perfect timing for Jeopardy) so I guess he ended around 7 give or take a minute, so exactly 8.5 basically. He essentially spent a full work day along with the half hour lunch break continuously talking, and bringing out some hearbreaking letters in the process.
Perhaps my wording wasn't precise... that happens from time to time. I do not believe the democrats necessarily favor the "middle class" but they go to far greater extent in creating that illusion in furthering their policies... republicans are more blatant about favoring the rich and big corporations albeit by selling that stance as the only possible means the middle class has to get ahead. Both pander for votes... both tend to sell candidacies on insultingly simplistic and transparent promises that anyone willing to employ some thought can see right through. Repugnicans favor a deregulated business climate that legalizes larcenous corporate practices (not to mention imperialistic military conquest in the interest of resources) without regard to environmental, social, or economic implications and they tell us that it is in the interest of creating jobs and ensuring our security. The predatory economic fallout furnishes the basis for democraps to offer a burgeoning government as an answer to the calamities created by not only predatory business practices but our unwillingness to make informed choices that would keep us from feeding them. The lowest end tends not to vote so there's no real need to acknowledge them and is consistent with the bipartisan desire to keep them as invisible as possible- except to exploit the suffering during an election campaign.
Why, taxes collected as a percent of the GDP are almost the same for both countries, and Switzerland being a federal republic I assume has a tax setup quite like ours.
