Been getting back into Family Guy of late There is an episode in season 7 'Family Gay' where Peter gets injected by the gay gene, then turns extra campy, T Shirt tied in a knot, running around limp wristed and all over dramatic - when it has to be spelt out to the masses this is what we get. Throughout the series though there are running jokes about Stewies sexuality, his traits being an articulate, educated matricidal sociopath. There are some episodes where he becomes besotted with a girl, but for the most part its implied that he is a latent homosexual. And the jokes work because in a less obvious sense those traits are identified with homosexuality. There is a confusing episode in season 8 where Stewie has to masquerade as a girl to get a job acting on a kids TV show, lots of latent homosexual jokes in that, but at the same time he gets feelings for one of his female co-stars The main reason I posted this becuase later in that same season, an ep I just watched, where Brian and Stewie get locked in a bank vault, theres this whole bit about Stewie buying and wanting to return a $3000 cardigan in part to get the attention of the sales guy, whom he seemed very besotted with. It was a tale I strongly identified with, never spent $3K on a Cardigan, but have done the whole back and forth thing simply cos a sales guy was hot. And there were a few other things in this ep in regards to Stewie that hit a bit close to home, inhcluding his facial expressions Maybe I'm reading too much into it, its just a cartoon after all, but reflective of society. That when it needs to be really spelt out, Campy = Gay, but the more subtle stuff works too, articulate, well dressed, even intelligent, a level of mysogyny ( I wouldnt go as far as Matricide), and anything from hyperactivity to some kind of neurosis or behavioural pathology hints to the homosexual or latent homosexual. What is it about all of Stewies traits that lead us to believe he is going to end up gay, why do these traits make the jokes work? Interesting to me cos these arent the traits normally identified out loud when the masses talk about gay guys, more the kind of traits that are left unspoken Same kind of thing for that really smart guy in The Big Bang Theory, not that I watch that very often, but his traits imply homosexual, and he's a little too comfortable around the hot girl in the series, in fact they have a realtionship thats more like mother and son (saw one ep where she sings him lullabies to get him to sleep) This post isnt a whine about how homosexuals are portrayed in the media cos there has been a bit of a turn around of late, if anyone has watched that 'Brothers and Sisters' show, errrgh, like the Brother and his partner in that, now we are being portrayed as the same kind of boring relationship victims like everyone else
I think your reading to much into it. I think the reason the gags work with Stewie is the simple fact that it has been a running gag thru out the entire series, is he or isn't he? Look at the ep. where Peter buys the TiVo and Stewie thinks his real dad is in San Fransico, when he does find him, it turns out to be himself from the future and he's not gay but a 30 something virgin. They do the same thing with Brain, a smart well educated dog but then they throw in the scene where the chuck wagon comes running thru the living room and he chase's it into the kitchen only to discover a bag of dog food. Wow, I think I have to much time on my hands.
Stewie is bi-sexual. I don't even watch alot of Family Guy, but it's still totally obvious. In fact I'd say he's a straight up homo, except for the episodes where he is attracted to females.
What I find funny is that Stewie is obviously gay, and wants to frak Brian, but refers to sex as "an underpants party, or whatever grown-ups do when they're in love." He has Brian alone in a locked for 2 days, and doesn't even do anything but reveal his platonic love for him. Oh, and he gets Brian to lick his ass and eat his vomit. But I don't think that counts.
Family Guy all together is obviously very pro-gay. Seth MacFarlane supports gay rights among other things. That episode when Brian's gay cousin visits with his Filipino fiance explains it all. It's a cartoon after all, but they've dropped enough hints that leads me to believe Stewie is not straight. There's too many hints to name: This pretty much sums it up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfyiGqwCMIE&feature=fvst
