Word up, hate on America all you want, but I think we all know the world would probably be muuuuch shittier had we not existed.

We (government) do some real shitty things, but what country's government doesn't?

I don't say fuck America, because America isn't the government, America is AMERICANS. We fucking rule when you really get down to it - a lot more than French (kidding...kind of)

Only thing I wish of Americans was that we were more politically active. and when i say politically i mean like...anything we fucking want. and by active i mean actually being active. voting is only buying into the corrupt system - ACTION gets attention and ACTION gets things accomplished.

(I do admire the French for how readily the people will go on strike or publicly demonstrate. In the same sense I admire the Tea Party for how active they are - I just think they are a bunch of insane motherfuckers that have absolutely zero soul.)

    VIVE LA RÉVOLUTION!!!

Would move to Portugal. For one, they have legalized drugs which in return reduced not only criminality but also the usage of drugs themselves as well as less drug addiction. For two, they are not war crazy, and don't have an inflated ego of self thinking "PORTUGAL #1". Their politics is in another realm altogether from where America is.

The world probably would have been better off without America. That's not to say that America doesn't have great places and great people, but that government policies need a drastic overhaul. Better leadership would do this country a world of good.

See that's just the idealized vision of it. Portugal had conscription up until a few years ago, abortion was illegal until 3 years ago, it's about to go bankrupt, and still has a lot of lingering Catholic conservatism.

I disagree...the US has done LOTS for the benefit of the world. That isn't meant to be gloating, it's just that I get kind of pissed off when people don't understand the sacrifices that our citizens have made in order to secure other countries. (Both world wars, for example...)

(Yes yes, there is lots of over-consumption and greed in America, too, but we give and help a lot too...though we could give and help MORE)

The world was built by the US. The British might have invented the industrial revolution but the US perfected it. Besides think of what were American innovations, light bulbs, phonograph, motion pictures, flight, automobile, modern radio, assembly line production. We were the first native land settled by whites to give their natives citizenship and voting rights. We were a leader in the union movement and women's suffrage.

eh....i agree that america has done a lot of good for the world, but as far as the way we treated the natives, I don't think thats anything to brag about. the native americans didn't want citizenship, they just wanted to be able to live off their ancestral land. they didn't want voting rights because they didn't agree or understand the politics of the white man. not to mention the trail of tears, the killing of the buffalo, the genocide via smallpox blankets, the fact that most native americans live far below the poverty level on indian reservations......there are far too many fucked up things we've done to the native americans for us to go about extolling the virtues of the native/white man relations.

What we did was no better than what happened in Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and all the other white settled places but we were the first to try to correct it

i'm not saying it was better or worse, but i also don't think giving them voting rights and a little bit of land after pretty much killing them off and taking away their way of life really corrects anything.

It's all theoretical though, where would you go IF you could!

This isn't saying that anyone here actually will leave.

This is a very good point. I mean, we should all kind of be embarrassed by the way we treated the natives and the blacks, and the Japanese Americans during WWII but you make an excellent point. All we can do now is try to treat everyone the same irregardless of who the are.

To the OP, I would go to Australia. I loved it down there. I used to live in Sydney. Maybe next time I will live in Melbourne.

If you are talking about slavery, even the Poms (Brits) beat you to it.

Talking about voting rights. And for slavery the north half of the country actually beat the British to it.

Wrong on both counts. Particularly slavery

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slave_Trade_Act_1807

Besides, even racist Ustrailyuns stopped lynching black fellas back in the mid 19th century. Whereas they were still castrating, lynching, and burning Nigras down in Dixie in the 1960's.
