It is fairly obvious on this board that there is a severe bias in favor of psychedelic and Cannabis use, and an unspoken, but still perceivable tone of disdain towards use of other drugs, especially opioids. Clearly, on a physical scale, that is correct. Psychedelics don't have addictive properties worth noting, there are no overdoses, etc. But, it seems this stigma applies to the perceived personal journeys achieved on psychedelics and opioids. I want to challenge the Hip Forum norm. First, I need to establish that I find opioids completely different than other depressants. I will freely admit that little ethereal knowledge is gained on a massive dose of Seconal. However, one of the main features that attract me to opioids is the states of transcendence that can be gained. Perhaps too many people just take the drugs and just like the body high and anxiety reduction. That is fine. They are superb in that manner. I have always been attracted to the ability of an opioid to stop your train of thought. You rarely sit still without racing thoughts in normal life. But on an opioid, even a moderate dose, you can close your eyes, enter your mind, and be at peace and at one with the circumstances in your life. Sounds a little like a psychedelic! I almost consider my opioid ventures that I use for personality examination as "trips." Not all ventures go that way. Some stay at the level of intelligent review of music in a peaceful way. But many times, I often come to terms with things that are bubbling under the surface of my busy mind. I essentially perform modern rational/cognitive therapy on myself while in this otherworldly protective shell. I think that is the only difference with psychedelics, other than physical ones. My meditation and soul searching is done with the backdrop of serenity, while it is less predictable on a psychedelic. Anyways, I wanted to share my thoughts, and hopefully eradicate some of the downward glances toward opioid users.
As a fellow user, I am also pissed that we get bashed, I have always been attracted to opiates due to them being my energy burst lol
Yeah. I can get energy bursts too. I really think you can make whatever you want out of opioids haha. Sometimes I really do like to partake in mindless activities like watching TV on the couch.
There is a limit to what you may learn from opiates, cocaine, alcohol and other hard more intoxicating drugs unlike with psychedelics where every single experience is in some way, shape or form different and unique.
my problem with opiates is most are manufactured by the pharmeceutical companies. I have no problem with pure opium. I've only tried it once, its not really my thing, but i can respect the fact that a personal voyage can be completed on opium. Opiates also, but I don't trust anything manufactured by an industry as evil and profitable as the pharmeceutical company.
If you learn to dream. yes Morpheus can take you there,, but like any trip.. can turn out badly and become a nightmare..
