Hope the moms, sisters, wifes and female friends of America have no problem with men acting feminine.. Most males have been educated since childbirth to grow up as 'tough men' and not to act or cry 'like babies do'.... Do you see a shift in today's society? Moondog!
yes, because tolerance of peoples differences is something that the better portion of the world are striving to achieve!
Just America?! I personally have no problem with men acting feminine. Even if I did, I'd have no right to. I can say the same for most women I know. Not only do I have no problem with it but girly boys make me smile. One of my closest friends is a gay guy. He's very open about his sexuality and can be very funny about it. He also says he fancies men for a reason and doesn't need a girly one. He cringes when he comes across men who act feminine.
I think it's just all the chemicals in the enviroment messin up people's hormones. Doesn't bother me though.
Whether I mind it or not is irrelevant. But I (generally) find myself shying away from those boys because they irritate me, with a few exceptions.
I've met extremely few men like this. I don't mind 'em. Some may find effeminate men to be 'abrasive' but I'm beyond caring too much about personality in this way. I'm way more interested in things like what people are doing with their life (goals, hopes, dreams etc)
It depends on what you mean by feminine. If you mean "campy" feminine, then I don't know. I do now that it's more acceptable than it used to be, although straight guys who have gay mannerisms will still get laughed at. I think, with all the gay stereotypes in the media, this kind of persona is kind of expected of gay guys. If, by feminine, you mean softer, more sensitive, or less outwardly masculine than a "macho" guy, then I would say that society is definitely shifting. There's less of a stark contrast between male and female roles, and while men and women have different mannerisms, a lot of guys aren't really "manly," for better or for worse. In contrast to "flamboyant," I think straight guys can actually get away with this more than gay guys, because straight guys don't scrutinize each other like they would scrutinize a guy who they are expecting to be different. Since this is in the "gay" forum, I'm guessing you're talking more about gay guys.
Sad to you...but not to them... I mean what are they suppose to do...if they've been that way their whole life, and are comfortable with that persona...do they just shut it off at say...35 or 45 or 50? I seriously doubt that... But being a 'queen' and just being 'feminane' are two different themes... Most guys who are queens don't seem to come out until their in their mid to early 40's...then they hold elaborate parades... Who know's why they do it, ask a million people, get a million different answers... I personally think their just having fun with themselves...using their bodies as a canvass...in other words their fetish is their whole body...and how colorful they can make it... In long ago eras and cultures, males could do this without refering to female dress...as males were often the ones who dressed up in elaborate colors...only in the modern recent western world are females given that exclusive right... I think the need to be creative and decorate oneself is within all...only males have been taught to repress that side of themselves... But not all guys who dress in drag are 'gay'...many are married and hetro...but just love to see themselves in a different light... Better to do it while young, slender and sexy, than to wait until old and wrinkly... But now this thread asked about 'feminane' guys...which is different from guys who dress up in public drag shows or 'queen' shows... A feminane guy is one who either just naturally looks 'soft'...or one who makes a conscious effort to act 'fem'... I've recently decided you cannot throw 'metrosexuals' in that bunch...a metrosexual is something else different... A reporter who gets groomed before he goes on air, could or might be considered a metrosexual...metrosexual is just a high maintance hetrosexual guy...with no outter gay inclinations what so ever... Now this guy here...just because he looks 'cute', doesn't mean he's feminane... 'Cute' is a stage guys go through when their young...some embrace it while it lasts, others out right reject and run from their 'cute stage'...but all guys go through it...they go through the 'cute years'... Many leave the cute stage, at around 24-26...then they start looking 'handsome' or 'well kept'... But some guys prolong their cuteness by simply taking care of themselves... And sometimes genetics makes that possible as well... But again...fem, can either be a behavior or look... One can look fem, but act macho...or one can look macho and act fem... Many variations...not to be confused with 'sissy'...or 'twink'....or even 'wimpy'... Each term has it's own implication...and mindset...and or even body type...
According to you maybe, but obviously not to them... I mean if they've been that way their whole life, and or comfortable with that identity, they can't just flip a switch and cut that part of themselves off... No more than a woman could just get a crew cut and walk around with jeans and plad shirt like a tom boy... But also...there's a differnce between 'drag queen' types, and guys who simply display varying degrees of 'feminality'...which really simply means 'relaxed'... Dressing in drag, and just being naturally 'fem' are kinda different vibes...but one could lead to the other in some... Drag queen doesn't nessicarily mean 'gay'...in many it simply means 'colorful expression'...after living years and years and decades of supressing their colorful creative side...'bam!' it just all comes out in an elaborate presentation of self...using the body as a canvass... In the past, males did this anyways...and didn't have to reference females. In past, none western civilizations, it was normal and routine for the males to dress up in colorful paint and attire... Only recently in modern western society has that behavior been 'feminized'... But guys still carry around the need to be colorful and expressive...the only ones who can really do that without being laughed at are entertainers or singers... Back in the 80's glam rock was really in...and I'm not sure what brought that about...don't understand what guys were really trying to express back then... Like their rebel feminane side or what? Or maybe appearing feminane while rocking hard, was their way of 'rebelling'?? That's a very interesting era in American and or world pop culture...I'm suprised more socialogist haven't studied it...but probablly will in the future... If grunge hadn't of come along...how far would they have gone with that fem rock stuff? We will never know... And then you just have 'cute'...like the guy below... He's young and cute...the two often go together...it's a phase most males go through... But one can be 'cute' without being feminane...cute, is a biological trait...being fem, is an attitude... You can be cute, without being fem...or you can be fem, without being cute... The mainstream media in the west mainly only focuses on females and their varietions... While ignoreing the male phenomina...and the many variations that lie within... The cameras and print media mainly focus on females cause their mainly ran and owned by white hetro males...who lust and fantacize over females...so you see the standard of beauty they want you to see... This indeed is a very interesting subject... (my first post vanished or got deleted, so I had to re type it)
This is very true. Its like the practice of wearing make up. Its only modern western society that has "feminised" that, and looked down on, and ridiculed men who wear it. When make up was first invented, it was actually men who primarily wore it, and was seen as something that enhanced, rather than reduced a man's masculinity. It just shows how so many people can be socially conditioned, and brainwashed to think that something is "right" or "wrong" just by being brought up in a certain time, and culture.
I'm pretty girly and feminine myself and really attracted to guys who are girly and fem like myself, not overly "manly" types. My femininity is mainly in the way I dress, my hair, wearing make-up, some my activities (like shopping, getting pedicures, ect), and being a sissy when it comes to certain physical activities, to the point where most females are physically stronger than me. But I don't walk or talk overly girly or with a lisp, I think thats affected in most cases. I do think our society is becoming more used to male feminine behavior though, thank god.
