i figure i'll post here, instead of my thread, since i'm hoping to be there by tomorrow..

just last minute minor stuff that you don't know about until you actually start driving...

i've been messaging sam.. tried the phone, but couldn't get through..

it's 12/2/10, almost 11 a.m. -hopefully underway in an hour or two...

the weather was great this past week, but now that i want to split? this big ass storm has moved in... wonderfull, isn't it?



most any other time would be fine, but as i was telling sam, i have to drive near 30 miles with nothing but my battery to back me up... that would get me to my car & all would be well, but it's shitty enough that i have to use my lights *and* my wipers..

i went to autozone to get the belt and fix the alternator, but they didn't have the right one.. spent a 1/2 hour in the pouring rain & the frikking wind trying dif belts.. and of course my tools & raingear are up in ashburn with the car, so i get fkng *soaked*, and *still* no reliable juice...
what a pain in the ass...

& wolf, thanks for the advice... def a lot to consider, as this develops...

a long bus would have been nice, and that may be vehicle # 2...

at least this project is tangibly underway...

Hey Bro, in a pinch you can grab yourself a pair of nylons and tie them up tight around the flywheels,,, or so I've heard from a number of women who had to do just that to get the 50 or so miles to a mechanics or parts store. Just a thought.

 

I made a fan belt once outta tights- it works :2thumbsup:

 

Cool, so how long about did they last you for?

 

I crawled to the next outback town real slow so it lasted til i got there and was still on when i arrived so its hard to say really! They were lycra about 70 denier i think if that helps!

 

Hi, Spirit Wynd. I am very interested in your project, which according to the date you posted is probably well on its way. I am a young college student from East Tennessee. I grew up on a farm in the mountains. I am wonderful with animals and know how to take care of them. I am a good worker and can grow about anything necessary. I am very crafty and good with my hands. I can quilt and I can make anything from dreamcatchers to headbands to jewelry if I have the tools necessary. I am also an artist so I could maybe paint some things or make the place prettier with some art. I am interested in staying for the summer of 2011 (June - July or August) Would I be welcomed in your hippie haven?

 

Hey Rainbow, Spirit Wynd is kind of on another mission in life at this time but there are a wide number of projects going on needing either planning, action or materials before we'll be at the point you may have assumed we had reached here. But rest assured we are heading in that direction and I feel fairly certain that acceleration in the rate of progress will be growing at exponential rates quite steadily from now on.

Feel free to P.M. me and we can chat more in the next few days. I'd chat now but spent my day dong a teardown on the Generator we're using to run the water pump.

I am a 59 year old woman who retired from the Univ of Ca, Santa Cruz a couple of years ago. Before moving to California I lived in Alaska for 6 years. Most of that time I lived without running water and with wood heat. I am older but I'm healthy. I would love to help build a community like this. Harmony, hi.. I'm not sure how consistant internet access is, presently.. I'll talk to sam and see if she's getting your posts.

I did email you, but before trying to come down, it would probably be best to provide some personal information.

That's the only advice i can offer at the moment... hopefully it's just a problem with the internet, for now.

Hey guys, I don't mean to waste your time by just making you read something you must have heard dozens of times by now, but I think what your doing is really amazing. I stumbled on TryingAgains first post, and I couldn't stop reading. Making your vision reality is something everyone should aspire to do. Keep up the hard work, it'll pay off!
