I'm 18, very close to turning 19. I graduated high school this last May, and now I'm trying to decide what to do. My options are move to a big city and go to college to get a degree in chemical engineering to create alternative fuels, or move to a community and live off the land. I know that I'd be truly happy with like minded people around me living off the earth, but I'm also worried about digging myself into a hole by not getting a degree now. Anyone have any advice? I've never been to a community, but I've met people traveling from them. Are they all as nice as the ones I've met? eace:
Those options aren't necessarily either-or, and you have plenty of time. One possibility would be to live with the community for a year, then go to university with a new perspective on yourself and the world. Or you could go to university now (are you talking about attending second semester? It starts soon!) ... you may find a similar-minded group there that satisfies your desire to live in a community. And I'm sure you're also aware that it's not unusual for people your age to change their minds, maybe more than once. I certainly did. So be careful about locking yourself into one course of action.
