A huge stash of works by Pablo Picasso has turned up in France. A former electrician has claimed he was given the works by Picasso as gifts. Stored for decades in a trunk, the 271 works were verified and are estimated to be worth $80 million. The administrator of Picasso's estate has sued the electrician on behalf of Picasso's heirs who find it unlikely that Picasso gave away so many works to one person, even though none are considered "major" works.

Makes you wonder at the motivation of the family. It also though makes you wonder about the motivation of the "owners".

The "owners" stated they had no intention of selling and just wanted them authenticated. Although that is also some what doubtful. In a statement they mention their estate.

So does the family not just wish to share with the world the work or is the worth what matters to them.

    Interesting dynamics.

I was told Picasso actually never tried to make a real living off of his painting. His work was collected and bought by people who liked and admired him but he was always trying to do new things in his work and was constantly experimenting, but he never went out of his way to exhibit or try to sell his work. I'm sure he could have given some away, and it's kind of a shame that all the estate cares about is suing the guy for megabucks. .

well hopefully a judge gets down to the truth..I see no reason that they couldnt be gifts..people do strange things

I know a guy who bought a huge property for next to nothing just because the executor of the estate did not want family to get it..the family had ignored and mistreated the person who owned the property...ha..big surprises when that will was opened :D
