I grew up in the Bay area in the 60's.....lived on Haight street for awhile, loved Hendrix and went to many be-ins and concerts at Winterland and the Fillmore. Tripped and barely graduated from high school. Started playing guitar at age 13....Beatles you know.... Was a Conscientious Objector during the Viet Nam war, lottery number was 64.
Now live in a small monastery, basically a hermit. Glad to have run across this forum. Looks fun and seems to have a of lot action on it.

    Peace out!

Welcome from soneone else new :) Sounds like you're probably about 5-9 years older than I am.

I grew up in the 60's in San Fernando Valley and though I've never made it to Haight, I almost hitchhiked with a group of friends that did go when I was like 12 or 13 (which would have been '68 or '69). They had a lot of stories when they made it back. :)

Still, a small group of us back then have an odd sort of connection to it - because we used to hike the rocky Chatsworth hills behind Spawn Ranch that as it turns out was when Manson was staying there. And Manson "recruited" from Haight (as I recall learning about him years later).

There was a small cave not far off from the back of the ranch that we'd like to sit in and smoke bongs (which we always took along when hiking). One time a scraggly man looked like late twenties to us approached us and smoked a few hits with us. He seemed cool and said he was just hiking around. We are convinced it was Manson, but can't prove it. He just looked to much like the Manson that then turned up in the news, and we were not far off the back of Spawn Ranch.

Anyways... I also lived in mid-MO for a long time. Actually worked at a place named Mid-Missouri between 1978-1986, that was out at the Columbia Regional Airport. (I live in St Louis now.)

Every so often I like to go hike Three Creeks (which is S of Columbia) to the Hunter's Cave entrance, and reminisce back to when it was not gated and locked and we used to explore it deeply.

Your post brought those memories to me, so I wanted to share them with you. :)

    Welcome
